At the 45th Ryder Cup, Team Europe came out on top, despite a week full of twists, missteps, and tense moments. One standout from that win was Tommy Fleetwood, who walked away with the prestigious Nicklaus-Jacklin Award. The honor, named for golf legends Jack Nicklaus and Tony Jacklin, goes to the player who best embodies the spirit of the sport. Recently, one of those legends has shared his thoughts on Fleetwood’s performance.

Fleetwood had a 4–1–0 record, making sure Europe held its winning edge. He teamed up with Rory McIlroy, one of the game’s current stars. Across his Ryder Cup career, Fleetwood now sits at 7–3–2. That gives him the highest winning percentage among European players with at least 10 matches. With numbers like that, it’s no surprise Fleetwood caught the eye of Tony Jacklin.

Recently, Jacklin spoke with Champions Speakers, a top UK agency and sponsor of the Champions UK European Seniors Masters on the Legends Tour. While discussing the latest headlines in golf, he paused to reflect on Fleetwood’s performance at the Ryder Cup. He highlighted how the Englishman shone, even when the matches took unexpected turns in New York. This was a fitting nod to Fleetwood’s calm under pressure.

Speaking about Fleetwood and his win, he stated, “He’s an all-round good egg and now one of the best golfers in the world”. He further added, “He’s paid his dues with so many close calls that he must have wondered if it would ever happen. I’m delighted for him.”

The Irish legend spoke right after Fleetwood’s win, sharing some insight into the moment. “When you play in a team event like this, you don’t necessarily set out to win individual awards,” he said. “The focus is on playing the right way and making the right decisions when it matters most.”

Then he reflected on what the recognition meant. “But to be acknowledged like this, winning an award named after legends like Jack Nicklaus and Tony Jacklin, and in some way follow in their footsteps, is very cool.”

Judging by Fleetwood’s recent run, it looks like this is just one of many milestones to come. He shows no signs of slowing down, and fans can expect him to keep adding more feathers to his crown.

Tommy Fleetwood reigns supreme in India

Tommy Fleetwood set the DP World India Championship alight on Sunday, delivering a scintillating final round of seven-under 65. With every shot, the Englishman inched closer to glory. Ultimately, he cemented his win by two masterful strokes. The day, however, began on a different note. Keita Nakajima from Japan was leading the game, holding a slim two-shot lead at 17-under par.

However, soon the scoreboard saw a change. Despite shooting a solid three-under 69, Nakajima couldn’t withstand the relentless push from the English contender. Soon, Fleetwood surged ahead to finish at an impressive 22-under par. But that wasn’t the most memorable moment that Fleetwood etched on the soils of India

Tommy Fleetwood’s seven-year-old son, Frankie, even joined him on the greens. The moment became extra special when Fleetwood shared the story behind it.

“So we were at home last week, playing golf together,” he said. “And Frankie just asked randomly: ‘Do you know what you’ve never done?’” Fleetwood laughed and listened as his son added, “You’ve never won a tournament and I’ve been able to run onto the 18th green.”

That little comment stuck with Fleetwood. It gave him an extra push to secure the win. In a way, he wasn’t just playing for himself. He was making sure his son’s small dream became a reality.
