PGA Tour returns to Bay Hill on March 7. This time with plenty more firepower. 18 of the top 20 in the OWGR – Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton being the obvious exception – will tee up at Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club and Lodge. Like the Tiger Woods-hosted Genesis Invitational, the Arnold Palmer Invitational will also have a 36-hole cut. The top 50 and ties will advance to the final two rounds.

Tiger Woods, who had to withdraw from the Genesis Invitational due to influenza, will miss the fourth Signature event. The 15-time Major winner has a record eight victories at the course, the first of which came in 2000, and the last in 2013. Moreover, Woods won at a stretch between 2000-2004. Notably, Tony Finau is the only eligible player not in the field. The Tour has already released the pairings and tee times for the $ 20M purse Signature event.

Kurt Kitayama returns to Bay Hill as the defending champion. But this time around, the 31-year-old has to edge past nine of the top ten in the world including past champions, Jason Day (2016), Rory McIlroy (2018), and Scottie Scheffler (2022).

Players to watch out for at the Arnold Palmer Invitational

Viktor Hovland will return to the greens after finishing 19th at the last Signature event. The Norwegian has struggled with his short game this year; apparently, he is frustrated and “cursed. This will be his only fourth event this season; he hasn’t teed up in any Tournaments in his home circuit.

His Ryder Cup teammate, Rory McIlroy, is another one who would like to improve on his past performances. Coming off to Stateside after two back-to-back top-three finishes in the Middle East, which included a victory at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, the Ulsterman has fumbled in the PGA Tour. In the recently concluded Cognizant Classic, the notorious bear trap strangulated McIlroy’s round three to 7-under par. The Northern Irishman could only climb five places in the final round to stop at 21.

Aside from the established names, Min Woo Lee, Eric Von Rooyen, and Jake Knapp will play at the Arnold Palmer Invitational for a shot at the $4M glory. Adam Scott and Webb Simpson, both PGA Tour Player Directors, will tee up on sponsor exemptions. This will be Scott’s third exemption this year, and Simpson’s second. On the other hand, Nicolai Hojgaard and Shane Lowry, two crucial members of the victorious European team at Marco Simone, will also play on sponsor exemptions at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

You can catch all the actions live on Golf Channel from 2-6 PM (EST) during the first two rounds. The moving day and the final round coverage will be divided between Golf Channel (12.30 PM – 2.30 PM EST) and NBC (2.30-6 PM EST). Aside from the $4M prize money and 700 FedEx Cup points, three spots for the Open Championship are also at stake.
