PGA Tour continues with its West Coast swing at the Farmers Insurance Open. The San Diego event, hosted in Torrey Pines, will kickstart on Wednesday, to avoid a clash with the NFL Playoff. Defending Champion Max Homa returns along with six other past champions of the event

The $9M purse event will be played in two championship courses. This year’s winner will grab a seven-figure paycheck, whereas the following 21 will pocket six-figure paychecks. Before the Farmers Insurance Open kickstarts on January 24, here is the full purse size and prize money breakdown.

The total purse of $9M is a $300,000 bump over the last year’s purse size. Homa, pocketed $1,566,000 last year. But this year’s champion will take home $1,620,000. That’s also $108,000 more than what Christiaan Bezuidenhout received at the American Express. The $9M purse also puts DP World Tour’s Ras Al Khaimah Championship’s $2.5M in the shade. Check out the prize money breakdown of the event.

Players to watch out for at the Farmers Insurance Open?

The 156-man field boasts twenty players from the top 50 in the OWGR, with World No. 5, Xander Schauffele, being the top-ranked player in the field. Patrick Cantlay, Schauffele’s buddy on and off the course, also returns to the event after five years. The Long Beach native failed to make the cut in his last outing at the San Diego event.

Cantlay is accompanied by his Ryder Cup teammate and defending champion Max Homa, who will tee off at 1.40 PM ET on the 1st TeeAlongside Homa, two-time Farmers Insurance Open champion Jason Day is also coming to Torrey Pines eying his first PGA Tour victory since AT&T Byron Nelson last May. Another past Champion, Luke List will hope to bounce back after his 25th-place finish last year.

A notable absence will of course be Rickie Fowler, who will give it a miss after 15 years of consecutive appearances. The veteran golfer has recently cut his sponsorship ties with the financial giant. Justin Thomas, who finished in third place in the American Express, and Nick Dunlap, who repeated history after 33 years by winning a PGA Tour event as an amateur, will also skip the event. World No.1, Scottie Scheffler has also skipped the $9M tournament.
