The spree of tough calls isn’t stopping for Bryson DeChambeau. Earlier, Brandel Chamblee hinted that a golfer’s game style could make it hard for the captain to pair him. Now it seems like the worry of facing the same fate as Patrick Reed is turning out to be true, as Keegan Bradley made an honest revelation just before the Procore Championship.

Underdog Golf shared a post on X about the doubts looming for DeChambeau. The post read, “Keegan Bradley said he has about 90% of the pairings, lineups figured out for Bethpage.” One of our goals was to have the guys prepared, ready to know who they’re playing with. Especially in alternate shot, I think that’s more important.” The LIV golfer in the past has appeared in two Ryder Cups, including the 2018 and 2021. But in both editions, he played only two matches in each for four-ball and foursomes.
Now with the revelation, the struggle to play more sessions will continue for DeChambeau. Well, it’s not only the captain’s worry, but in the past, many experts have talked about it. During the Favorite Chamblee podcast, the golf commentator said, “I think Bryson DeChambeau will be hard to pair with. You know, I think he is. I believe Cameron Young plays a similar golf ball, if not the exact same golf ball. But just the style of golf Bryson plays has proved difficult to pair with in the Ryder Cup. His record clearly shows that.” He cited his aggressive gameplay as an issue to pair with the golfer. After considering all the available options, Cameron Young, who is another aggressive golfer on the team, seems a great partner choice for DeChambeau. Well, it is not just Chamblee, but other experts have drawn the same conclusion.

Discussing the same, Johnson Wagner on the 5 Clubs podcast also voiced the same. He said, “I think there’s only one option, and especially if it’s alternate shot.” And as expected, he went with the same as Chamblee, saying, “It’s Cameron Young.” Though the two might match the game style, Bradley will not overlook the stats of DeChambeau. In the past, LIV golfers have struggled with foursomes, as evidenced in 2018, when he played two matches with Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods, both of which resulted in losses.

On the other hand, his most successful season with Scottie Scheffler came in 2021 when he was paired for four-balls. The duo recorded a win against Tommy Fleetwood and Viktor Hovland and then halved their match against Jon Rahm and Tyrell Hatton. With the past performance, there is a clear sign for the captain to follow. But apart from the two factors, Davis Love III has hinted about Ben Griffin being the partner of Bryson. Love quoted, “Bryson with somebody steady, or somebody who birdies something other than the drivable par-4s and short par-5s, is a good partner.” Griffin carries a strong game around the greens and putting, while DeChambeau has the strong suit of long-distance coverage.
Though it feels like another option for the Scientist, there is a worry that only Cameron Young could suffice with.

Why is Cameron Young the ideal partner for Bryson DeChambeau?
Talking about the possibility of pairings, Johnson Wagner has shared a great statistical point that kind of solves the worry for Keegan Bradley. For the captain to decide who could pair with DeChambeau has many factors, including game style, past results, and, most importantly, his ball selection. Talking about which Wagner said, “Bryson is so crazy with his spin rates and launch angles. He’s not going to play anybody else’s ball. He plays a very specific prototype Titleist golf ball.” Rightly stated, The Mad Scientist recently switched to the Titleist Pro V1X Doubt Dot ball. The golfer was in search of a ball that works with his speed, and it ended with the prototype. However, it might seem that there is no pairing with the unique ball choice of DeChambeau, but in reality, there is.

Talking about that, Wagner further added, “Guess who won their first event, their first week playing that ball? It was Cameron Young.” The Wyndham Championship was the first PGA Tour win for Young, and it came with the same ball used by Bryson.
With some great possibilities of pairing the two together, it seems DeChambeau will have a partner for the 2025 Ryder Cup. But with the doubts about Bradley still alive, it is a worry for the golfer.
