Among those talking about him is Paige Spiranac, who, as per her recent statement, doesn’t see eye to eye with how others perceive the 2022 Masters Tournament winner, including an NHL legend.

Paige Spiranac gets candid about Scottie Scheffler

This week, everyone had nothing but praises for Scheffler’s golf skills. And so did the gorgeous golfer. “Scottie Scheffler is so disgustingly good at golf and seems like an even better person,” she tweeted. “Easy guy to root for.” But not everyone felt the same way! And among those was the former NHL star, Ryan Whitney.

Whitney had also tweeted about Scheffler just before Paige did. And while he had tons of praise for the PGA Tour star, he had a lot more than just that. He called him a “machine” and “an incredible player,” and even praised his upbringing. “His dad told him “be a better person than a golfer”,” he stated. “Awesome stuff.”

But soon after, the NHL legend dropped a bomb. “Having said all that, he is so boring,” he wrote. “Does nothing for me.” Whitney even added that if Scheffler successfully defended the Masters this year, he wouldn’t be happy at all. “If he runs away with the masters again and ruins Sunday I’ll snap,” he exclaimed.

Spiranac vs. Whitney

The two athletes certainly agree that the Players winner is an amazing and outstanding golfer. They even agreed that, as a person, the PGA Tour star was a delight. But Whitney could not bring himself to see Scheffler win the Masters, and that’s where the chasm between him and Spiranac started to grow.

While the former NHL star was set against supporting Scheffler, Spiranac had publicly proclaimed her backing of him. She said that who he was as a person and as a golfer made it an easy decision to side with him when he played on the course. Whitney, on the other hand, just didn’t want the “boring” golfer to take the win.
