With only a couple days left until the 2023 Masters, all eyes are on the players taking the field at Augusta. Fans are, of course, keen to see how the players are preparing themselves for the year’s first major championship. Many fans will be impressed with the preparation their favorite stars are putting into their pre-game training. However, the feelings of fans of Brooks Koepka may be another story altogether!

The only practice fans have witnessed from the Saudi-backed tour player recently is his trash-talking. The most recent instance came when he yelled abuse at an NHL star during an ongoing game!

Brooks Koepka yells insults at NHL great

On Sunday, the four-time major winner headed over with four of his friends to the FLA Live Arena, home of the Florida Panthers. The group had gone to watch the Panthers face off against the New York Rangers in an epic showdown. Koepka, who was born and brought up in Florida, was undoubtedly rooting for the Panthers.

When his home team began falling behind, the defector began losing his cool. When the Panthers conceded a goal due to a mistake made by NHL star Aaron Ekblad, Koepka went bonkers. A video of his verbal rage soon went viral all over Instagram and Twitter. In it, the golf pro stood at the railing with a foldable traffic cone and yelled “You f****** traffic cone” at the defenseman.

The traffic cone, or pylon, insult is used to call out defensemen in hockey that are slow. It’s an abuse that compares them to the cones used in training that don’t move and can easily be skated past. Well, it seems like that’s what Koepka thought of Ekblad, his own home team’s player, at that moment.

Koepka not an Ekblad fan?

The LIV golfer was certainly dissatisfied with the NHL pro that night, and he made no attempt to hide it. Following his bold traffic cone insult, he lashed out more at the former no 1 NHL pick. “Ekblad, you suck!” he screamed, enraged by the performance the Panthers defenseman had put on. It’s safe to say Koepka, although a Panthers fan, has no love for Ekblad.

The Panthers went on to lose 4-3 to the Rangers that night, undoubtedly ending Koepka’s night on a sad note. But those around him certainly got the show of their lives as they watched the golf great take on his home team’s player in a fit of fury.
