It was a sad day for all the fans as a milestone slipped from their favorite golfer’s hand. Let’s find out how Cheyenne supported her fellow golfer despite the competition.

How Cheyenne supported Lexi Thompson?

LPGA star, Lexi Thompson, was on the verge of winning her second major championship at the ANA Inspiration in 2017. The event was the year’s opening major for women’s golf. She could have won, but her dreams got shattered after the ruling. A spectator informed officials of a rule violation from the third round of the championship. They assessed the American golfer with a four-stroke penalty in the final round.

However, Cheyenne felt differently about the incident. According to her, there are better people than viewers to point out mistakes. They are not eligible to do so; only officials should be responsible for pointing out mistakes. She said on Twitter, “Viewers should not be able to call in rulings.” Even though people disagreed with her, she stood firm in her words.

The penalty on Thompson was for signing the wrong scorecard after the third round. According to the violation, the golfer incorrectly replaced her marked ball on the 17th green. While heading to the 13th tee, the pro had six holes remaining and a two-shot lead. After the penalty struck her, it was all downtown from there. Ryu of South Korea defeated Thompson in a sudden-death playoff.

Was ruling the right decision?

Michael Whan, the commissioner of the LPGA IN 2017, felt terrible for the golfer, but at the same time, she believed that it was the right decision. According to her, Thompson was one of the finest golfers on the LPGA tour, and her performance was worthy enough to win a trophy.

It was a rule, and they should follow it. Pointing it out and giving Thompson a penalty was correct. However, everyone felt bad about it the very next day. But that is how it works. “This is one of those cases that the rules were applied 100% correct as they’re written today, for the rules of golf,” she said to CNN.
