John Daly has many good things to say about his old friend. And by an old friend, we are referring to former U.S. president Donald Trump. The veteran golfer recently appeared in a candid chat with Tucker Carlson. Daly waxed lyrical about the former President calling him “a great guy,” who must return to office.

Notably, Daly was present at the last Presidential debate, sporting a blazer resembling the U.S. flag, voicing his strong support for the veteran Republican candidate. As we are at the doorstep of another U.S. election, Daly is still a staunch supporter of the former president.

John Daly wants “Daddy Trump” back at the office. The five-time PGA Tour winner believes, “he needs to win,” for the sake of the country. “I pray to God he wins,” Daly tells Tucker Carlson in a somber tone. This was not the first time, the ‘bad boy’ of golf, referred to the former President, as “Daddy Trump.

Carlson pressed further, asking if this is the majority view among golfers. The Wild Thing replied, “Yeah. Like all of us on the tour and everything, we all want Daddy Trump back.” Notably, Daly, nowadays, plays at the PGA Tour Champions mostly. So, it’s not clear whether he was referring to both the PGA Tour and the PGAT Champions or only the Tour he participates in.

The 57-year-old explains his reasons. Daly feels that Trump is a “great guy once you get to know him.” The duo has had a strong friendship for over a decade. In fact, Trump apparently, told the golfer, that he would be a president one day, that too, way back in the 90s. Daly recounts, “We played Pro-Am. We went out back. We talked a little bit… He says, Mark my words, I’ll be President of the United States.

The former U.S. president is also famous for his love for golf – a hobby that has garnered him some criticism from his political opponents in the past. But, Daly doesn’t want to give too much importance to that. Contrarily, the two-time Major winner said he helped Trump improve his game.

Trump can chip like Woods and Mickelson

Reportedly, the former POTUS boasts a handicap of 2.5. Although Daly doesn’t throw any light on that, the 1995 Open Champion helped the president in his golf more than once. “I got to work with his chipping a little bit.” But it’s a fairly common misconception that hurts his game. “Everybody thinks, when you chip, you got to move it back. You actually need to move it up a little bit.”

But when corrected, he chips like “Tiger or Phil.” Carlson, jokingly, quipped if Daly pictures himself being a coach for the Republican candidate. “I don’t think he has the time to play that much golf.” Donald Trump would be happy to know that his old friend has stuck by him.
