Security at the International Club is taking all the necessary steps to avoid any kind of disturbance – which comes at a cost. A group of wedding guests were recently shackled by the police after mistaking them for LIV protesters, which has left a bad taste for everyone involved.

What happened in the early hours at the International Club?

Joanna Benoit and Taylor Jacobson had planned to tie the knot in September 2020. But then COVID happened. After much delay, the couple tied the knot and invited the touring party to Benoit’s childhood home, followed by camping in the woods. The property is situated right next to the club.

In the wee hours of Sunday, the group received an early wake-up call when police entered the camp and asked to pack up. The Bolton police chief said security from the golf course called with concerns about trespassers, fearing it to be protesters.

General manager, Steve Brennen said, “Officers spoke with the individuals, determining that it was a group of campers from a nearby wedding the prior evening. The group decided to leave voluntarily, without being asked to.” He shot down questions on shackling by saying, “safety and security is our priority.”

Is tight security the need of the hour for LIV Golf event?

Ballville Road in Boston is a small neighborhood of roughly 5,600 residents. Yet, the opinions on being the host for one of LIV’s events are more polarized than anything else. Some Bolton residents have come together to raise a total of $1,100 to pay for opposition messages during the event. In such a scenario, security has been raised to keep protesters away from the event, which caused the confusion of the aforementioned wedding party.

“They’re more alert, I’m sure, of protestors and such,” Jacobson said. The couple agreed that the police were on high alert after the protests but felt the situation could have been handled better. “It just wasn’t how we wanted to start our day off on Sunday,” Benoit said.
