Does a single missed putt define a champion’s journey? At the 2025 Chevron Championship, Charley Hull, the dynamic English golfer renowned for her unapologetically honest style and gutsy play, suffered an unexpected defeat. Hull missed the cut at this year’s first major, despite her stellar record, which included a top-10 finish in 2024 in greens hit from the fairway percentage.

The competition, held at The Club at Carlton Woods in The Woodlands, Texas, featured Olympic gold medalist Lydia Ko and reigning champion Nelly Korda among its illustrious field. At seven-under-par going into the weekend, Yan Liu of China was leading the field, but Hull’s performance was disappointing. So, let’s see what Hull had to say about her performance at this unique occasion.

A video clip of Charley Hull’s attempt to cut at the Chevron Championship was posted on Instagram with the poignant caption, “Tried to hole this to make the cut here at the Chevron but it wasn’t meant to be. Thank you, @ChevronChampionship, for a great week. Onwards and upwards.” This open admission struck a chord with supporters, demonstrating Hull’s tenacity and progressive outlook. With the end of this event, Hull’s victoryless streak continues from 2022, when she won the Volunteers of America Classic.

Unusually, Hull’s performance at the Chevron Championship fell short of her customary level. She missed the cut, which was set at two-over-par, along with several other well-known players. Major champions Jennifer Kupcho, Céline Boutier, and Yani Tseng were among the other well-known figures who failed to advance further.

Throughout her career, Hull has consistently demonstrated her openness and tenacity despite this setback. Her dedication to improving and being prepared for future competitions is evident in her recent social media posts, which showcase intense training regimens and equipment upgrades. While Hull’s words offered a glimpse into her spirit, her struggles on the course at Chevron painted a different story altogether.

Analysing Hull’s performance at the 2025 Chevron Championship

Charley Hull struggled to maintain consistency on the course, as seen by his 75 and 73 rounds at the Chevron Championship. With two birdies in the first four holes, she had a good start to her opening round, but a triple bogey ruined it, and she finished three over par. Although she made some progress in the second round, her one-over-par 73 was unable to move on.

She had a decline in form at this tournament, as evidenced by her 2024 performance at the same event, where she tied for 23rd. However, it’s essential to consider her entire trajectory in 2025. Hull proved she could compete at a top level earlier in the season when she tied for fourth place at the HSBC Women’s World Championship. Compared to 2024, when Hull had 4 top ten finishes and only missed the cut once. However, she has only played three events this season, so we can only wait and watch how the rest of the season unfolds for her.

Her tenacity and ability to overcome obstacles indicate that she remains a powerful force on the LPGA Tour. Hull’s experiences—both positive and negative—will undoubtedly help her develop and succeed in the sport as the season progresses.
