No team has achieved what the 4Aces GC did during the inaugural year of LIV Golf. A total of five wins, including a Team Championship victory during the first season, marked them as one of the best squads in the Saudi-backed League. Admirably so, Dustin Johnson was at the front, leading them to the triumphs. However, although the second season witnessed the group leading the scoreboard with two wins, it wasn’t such a great one for the skipper as an individual.

The golfer took to an interview a while back to comment on his performance the past year. However, while doing so, he revealed “the choice” that he made that caused him to falter during the second season of LIV Golf, all the while expressing his determination to “play better!”

Dustin Johnson opens up about his second year at LIV Golf

“I wasn’t really thrilled with my performance,” said the 40-year-old recently in an interview. The reason? All of it boiled down to a decision that was made last season. The choice of not grinding it out. “I probably could have put in some more work,” confessed the 4Aces GC skipper as he looked back at the year before and continued, “I didn’t, and it was a choice that I made.”

The pro went on to divulge his plans for the new season. “So, this year, I’ve been putting in a little more work,” disclosed the athlete before expressing his determination, “I’m going to play better.” Further, he conveyed how, if one was to get better at their gameplay, they need to “play well” and “put in the time” as well.

But Johnson also pointed out how, sometimes, one wouldn’t be able to dish out the results even if they put in the work. Who? None other than Patrick Reed. He mentioned how, although “few people put in more time on the range than Reed,” he couldn’t manage a victory in the two seasons of play. Nevertheless, he was quick to dub him “the best player without a LIV win,” all the while referring to his T4 and T6 finishes during the first two seasons of the circuit.

The mark of a good sportsman is admitting when he did wrong. Well, that is exactly what the captain of the team did. However, it does intrigue many as to how he fared during the two seasons, which elicited the confession he made a while back.

Johnson’s performance in LIV Golf

During the inaugural season of the Saudi-backed league, the athlete finished a total of seven times inside the top 10 in his eight starts. This included a victory at the Boston event and two T2 finishes at Bedminster and Chicago, along with two T3 at Portland and Miami for the Team Championship.

In 2023, he could only card a total of seven top-10 finishes in the 14 starts he made, including a victory at the tournament in Tulsa, where he carded a 17-under-193 over the three days. Regardless, his performance wasn’t enough to push his team to glory, just as he did the previous year, and he sure regrets it. But even so, it seems the two-time major champ has not given up. Well, it appears the fans are in for a different Dustin Johnson this time around!
