Bryson DeChambeau is tearing it up on the golf course. No, it’s not on the LIV Golf Series, but rather on the eastern border of Arizona. The 2020 US Open champ is contesting (again) at the Professional Long Drivers Association World Championships, and is doing fine by the looks of him!

Bryson DeChambeau slams last-gasp shot to qualify for last 16
DeChambeau is making his second appearance at the event after his 7th-place finish last year. The entire landscape of golf has changed over the course of one year, but Bryson’s excitement and energy for the tournament are still the same.

The American golfer was seen teeing up against Jeff Gavin and Sam Judah for a place in the last 16 of the long drive competition. While Judah shot a 404 to seal his place for the next round, DeChambeau and Gavin went head-to-head for a place in the knockouts.
Before their last chance to make a mark, Gavin was leading DeChambeau by 385 to 380. The former went a step further, shooting a 389 to presumably secure his position.

However, DeChambeau hit a smashing drive that touched an apex of 126 feet but stayed in the air for quite a long time. The scoreboards flashed a score of 399 which led to DeChamebau jumping and hugging everyone within reach. It was a brilliant display from the LIV golfer to save himself up for another round, and clinch a place in the quarter-finals of the event.
DeChambeau’s participation a boon for the Professional Long Drivers Association
While long-distance competitions have existed in different forms across decades, not many have stuck around for a while. This has been due to a comic response from the golfing world, with the general opinion that long-distance drivers are the “clowns of the golf world”.

However, the arrival of DeChambeau has triggered a change in the positive direction. A well-known face with a Major Championship has certainly increased ticket sales and viewership for the event, which at point seemed unlikely after the disaster caused by COVID-19.
While DeChambeau hasn’t set LIV Golf on fire, his mere participation helps out the PDLA immensely. Fans and organizers alike will be hoping for him to stay in the hunt as long as he can in the event.
