Bryson DeChambeau is certainly the biggest prospect to become one of the best golfers in the coming years. However, DeChambeau’s antics on the golf course have severely been criticized by many people. Whether it’s his behavior after taking a shot or defending himself against the official rules, DeChambeau has often been denounced. Today we look at one incident where it wasn’t DeChambeau’s fault after all.

Back during the 2021 Ryder Cup, things got heated between Team USA and Team Europe. The teams shared several controversial moments during the event.

With DeChambeau’s charisma, it was apparent that he too would get involved in the drama. But there was something that triggered a reaction from DeChambeau.

Bryson DeChambeau reacts after his short putt

In his afternoon encounter at the Whistling Straits Golf Course, DeChambeau was forced to putt from inside three feet. Despite being the first hole of their four-ball match, Tommy Fleetwood and Viktor Hovland refused to give him the putt, making a significant statement on behalf of the Europeans.

While laying his putter down to signify that it was “inside the leather,” an unwritten rule that players must give between the putter head and the handle, the 29-year-old wasn’t too happy. With Scottie Scheffler, DeChambeau then won his first point of the competition by defeating Fleetwood and Hovland.

After DeChambeau’s epic reaction, British broadcast commentator Butch Harmon of SKY TV called DeChambeau’s move “classless.’’ But unlike past instances, DeChambeau was only reciprocating the Europeans for their antics.

With the Scientist having signed with LIV Golf, it’ll be exciting to see how he measures to the upcoming challenges.

Tensions arose between both the teams long before DeChambeau’s arrival. Justin Thomas along with Jordan Speith also got involved in another clash against the Europeans.

To the amusement of Thomas, who was two shots behind Spieth in their match, Bernd Wiesberger and Viktor Hovland asked him to tap in a two-foot putt. After tapping in, similar to DeChambeau, Thomas too said the putt was “inside the leather.

Moments earlier, Thomas was yelling hysterically over a putt that reduced the match’s lead to two, something the Europeans may not have forgotten when they refused to concede the putt. Nevertheless, Thomas and Spieth won two-up, showing that it didn’t deter them at all. Later, in the afternoon, Thomas was observed drinking a beer while on the course.
