At the start of a new year, many cultures have many different rituals. While some cultures believe in eating grapes, others wear specific colors. The Japanese, on the other hand, believe in Daruma dolls. A few PGA Tour players recently adopted this ritual too, hoping to be showered with good luck during the year. Among them were the likes of Justin Thomas and Tony Finau, who announced their goals for the year while painting their dolls.

Justin Thomas wished to “win a major championship” during the year. The pro has always had a goal to achieve great things and many wins on the tour. He stated as he painted the doll’s eye, “I’m going to have win a major on there, and I’m just going to keep working hard at home.” He added that he hoped he could fill in the other eyes soon.

Tony Finau, who has already seen his first win this season, didn’t wish for more wins. He instead said that his goal was to lead a healthier lifestyle. He explained, “[I want to] push myself to work out and, most importantly, to eat better.”
Collin Morikawa painted himself a Daruma doll. While painting in the eye, the golf pro stated that he wished to “get back in the winner’s circle.” The two-time major championship winner saw his last win on the Tour back in 2021. He added that he hoped the doll gave him some good luck.
