The DP World Tour’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is currently taking place at the three courses of St. Andrews: Kingsbarns, Carnoustie, and Old Course. The Links golf courses are known to be a challenge for professional golfers because of the unreluctant winds.

Moreover, the participants of the ongoing European Tour event were faced with treacherous weather conditions. Though McIlroy struggled in the second round, he ended the round with an impressive par.

Rory McIlroy makes a par in challenging weather conditions

The 33-year-old had a poor first two rounds at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. McIlroy currently stands tied to 42nd position after his three-over-75 in the second round. Nonetheless, the adventurous end to the round brought back some high spirits for the 4-time Major winner.

At the 18th hole at Kingsbarns, which is a Par 4 and 444 yards long, the heavy rain and winds were blowing constantly. Rory McIlroy hit the tee shot that ended up on the hill. Later, the follow-up shot carried a great length for the benefit of McIlroy.

For the birdie shot, the golfer struck the ball into greens, yet was difficult to score a par. However, despite torrential weather conditions, the Northern Irish star surprised everyone by scoring par. More so, he was amazed himself. Rory McIlroy was seen laughing in amazement as to how he did he manage to score that.

Ahead of the third round, what’s the next challenge for the 4 time Major winner?

McIlroy ready for the Old Course

Since the initial two rounds of the event at Kingsbarns and Carnoustie are done, the golfer is set to play the third round at Old Course. In order to make the cut for the final round, McIlroy must perform well in the third round.

However, the 2022 Tour Championship winner is familiar with the Old Course. Earlier this year at the 150th Open Championship, Rory McIlroy was on the brink of winning his 5th Major title but was succeeded by a recording-breaking round by the Aussie Cameron Smith.

Nonetheless, the golfer’s first obstacle to playing good golf in the ongoing European Tour event is the challenging weather conditions. With still the second half left for the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, Richard Mansell leads by 2 shots. But considering McIlroy’s familiarity with the legendary golf course, it will be exciting to see how the tournament unfolds in the next two days.
