WATCH: Tiger Woods’ Caddie Checks the Wind Direction in a Unique Way

After an enthralling finish to the 2022 Travelers’ Championship, the PGA Tour now moves to the John Deere Classic. Meanwhile, this is not a prominent PGA Tour event this year as there are no star golfers on the field. However, things were different in the 90s when golfers like Tiger Woods and other top golfers competed ardently. 

Meanwhile, Tiger was a young golfer at that time but was a legend in the making. Therefore, as we head to the 2022 John Deere Classic, an iconic video of Tiger Woods and his first caddie, Mike Cowan, is flaring up on Twitter.

Tiger Woods’ caddie checks the wind direction in an iconic fashion

Tiger Woods was analyzing the wind direction before playing his approach shot. Meanwhile, we usually see golfers or their caddies plucking the grass and throwing it up in the air to check the wind direction. However, Tiger’s caddie, Mike Fluff Cowan, had some other plans.

He was smoking a cigarette, and he took a puff and held the cigarette above to see where the smoke went. He looked at it keenly and figured the wind was blowing towards the pin. Meanwhile, even Tiger Woods looked surprised for a moment when Mike checked the direction of the wind in this manner.

“What’s Fluff doing? Sending smoke signals or checking the wind?” said the perplexed commentator. “Well, he’s checking the wind,” revealed the other commentator. Therefore, this was a unique way of checking the wind direction, and this throwback video is making rounds on social media as we are nearing the John Deere Classic.

However, sadly, there are no top or star players on the field this week. Most golfers are either resting or have signed up for the rival LIV Golf Invitational Series. Additionally, there are no golfers from the top 20 or 30 OWGR this week on the PGA Tour.

Meanwhile, the second event of the LIV Golf will begin on the same day as the John Deere Classic in Portland. Moreover, LIV Golf has prominent names in the field, like Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, and others. Hence, this is going to be a challenge for the PGA Tour to keep up with the rival league.
