Which tee box did Charlie Woods opt for playing at the PNC Championship?
After admitting that he had asked his son to copy Rory McIlroy’s swing and not his, Tiger Woods recently revealed that Charlie hits the farthest compared to him. Considering the 15-time major champion can still play good shots, as one could see in The Match, it is more than a great achievement that the 13-year-old could outdrive him.
Charlie Woods will play one up from the championship tees at the @PNCchampionship which is two tees back from where he played last year. As for now, the committee deciding with his length 13 yo Charlie will play from the same tee as @VijaySinghGolf, @PGA_JohnDaly & @NellyKorda.

It also might be why Charlie, according to Golf Channel’s Todd Lewis, thought it would be okay to play from the same tee box as John Daly, Vijay Singh, and Nelly Korda. Notably, he played two tees back from this last year, which is usually the box for 12-13 age group players’ at the PNC event.

However, according to Lewis’ new Twitter post, Charlie Axel Woods’ tee box has been changed ever since. “The committee for the @PNCchampionship reconsidered and decided to move Charlie Woods to the tee markers designed for 65-72 yo male pros, LPGA pros over 50 & family members age 12-13 yo,” he tweeted. “Charlie is 13 and will now play at 6,452 yds instead of 6,754 yds as previously planned,” his tweet further read.
Fans’ reaction to Tiger Woods’ son playing from the tee box designated for his age group
The Ritz-Carlton GC in Orlando will have players from the 11 to 87 age groups this Saturday. Hence, there are a wide variety of tee boxes to be played. Charlie had decided to play from the second-longest tee box initially. However, the latest golf channel reports show that the officials have decided to get him to the third-longest one, which is the normal one for kids in his age group.
The new changes have made the golf world discuss it through tweets and comments.
Makes sense. He should just fall into his age/gender group.

Fair enough

This is a much more realistic yardage, even for his distance off the tee. Give him the chance to go low. Length restricts scoring for juniors.

It is a good decision. If anything, tees should consider handicap index in addition to length. No way John Daly should be playing the same tees as a 13 year old…even a very long 13 year old.

You mean a 13 year old will get to play from tees designated for a 13 year old? What a smart move.

Notably, almost everyone agreed with the decision of the officials to let the 13-year-old use the tee box designated for his age group kids. Do you agree with the board’s decision?
