The 2019 RBC Heritage win seems to be a distant memory! It’s been half a decade since CT Pan lifted a trophy on the PGA Tour. And the 2024 season has not been any better. The Taiwanese golfer started the season with a missed cut at the Sony Open in Hawaii, and his bad spell continued, leading to multiple poor finishes, many more failed cuts, and even a withdrawal that came in at the 2024 CJ Cup Byron Nelson.

Ying Chun Lin: The Social Caretaker
Ying Chun Lin earned a bachelor’s degree in Social Work from the National Taiwan University in 2002, followed by a master’s degree in the same course from Washington University in St. Louis. She pursued her degree after taking a five-year break. In between, she worked as a licensed social worker at Cathay General Hospital.

When she graduated from Washington University in 2009, she became the case manager of the Grace Hill Settlement House. Well, just grabbing a degree was not enough, as she wanted to get deep into the annals of social work, and that was when she got into the University of Wisconsin-Madison for her PhD in Social Welfare. Just a year later, she was also made a research project assistant at the same university, along with being a doctoral student. She graduated in 2019.

Ying Chun Lin is currently a research scientist at Child Trends, working on ‘the factors that affect low-income children’s access to high-quality early care and education’ for nearly three years now. Before this, she was a full-time post-doctoral associate at the Social Science Research Institute at Duke University. She has dedicated so much of her life to pursuing social welfare that, ironically enough, Chun herself is not much of a socializer. She has no social media accounts, apart from LinkedIn. And well, the one that she has comes across with no posts, just updates of her accomplishments, to be used professionally.
Being the commendable woman that she is, Chun Lin has always ensured that she balances her dedication to societal welfare with being a strong backbone for her family. Her unwavering support has consistently played a crucial role in C.T. Pan’s moments of victory.

Ying Chun Lin is a steadfast anchor in her role as a wife
Ying Chun Li got married to CT Pan in December 2016, just a year after the Miaoli player turned pro in 2015. Ever since she has been playing versatile roles in his life. From being a friend and guide to her husband to taking the vital responsibility of being his caddie, which was earlier done by his father before he passed away in 2010.

Chun caddied for Pan at the 2018 Wyndham Championship, where he tied for the second position with Webb Simpson, just three strokes behind Brandt Snedeker.
Her role in the golfing career of CT Pan has been so prominent that he credits her for his only win on the PGA Tour in 2019. It was Ying Chun who convinced him to attend the RBC Heritage rather than go to Houston for the junior event that he wished to go to. And well, things turned out pretty well for him after that. Praising his wife, he even stated, “Just listen to your wife, and you will have a good life. She’s right, always.”
