Most of the golf community believes that the T in TGL stands for Tiger Woods. or maybe Tech. After all, technology is the league’s USP. But if that were the case, should the name also not have Rory McIlroy’s initials? It does not, which is because the letter has a different meaning. The ‘T’ in TGL stands for TMRW, as in TMRW Golf League, a nod to TMRW Sports, the company founded by Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, and Mike McCarley to launch TGL and other innovative projects.

TMRW, yes is named with the initials of Rory McIlroy, and Tiger Woods, and arranged in a way that it reads as TOMORROW. “You go through a bunch of different branding exercises with different agencies and at the end of it what you find is if you’re creating a sports league everyone uses the acronym anyway,” McCarley said. “So start with the acronym because that’s what it’s eventually going to be called once people realize what it is and how they refer to it.” Officially, it’s called TGL presented by SoFi.

TGL’s got slow play covered

Slow play has been a recurring obstacle in the golf world. From the PGA Tour to the LPGA Tour, all the leagues have faced backlash for it. At a TGL match, you’ll notice two prominent shot clocks displayed on the main video board, easily visible to both players and fans. Additional digital shot clocks are strategically placed throughout the SoFi Center. But how does it work?

Well, the shot clock begins at 40 seconds. This implies that the golfers have only that much time to complete each shot. Now, 40 seconds are what players are also officially allotted on the Tour, but the other leagues do not have a shot clock for the ultimatum in the courses. This leads to them going beyond that time limit, and that too without being penalized for it. But in the TGL, the moment the shot clock reaches 15 seconds, there will be the sound of a heartbeat playing out loud at the venue. For every second that the clock ticks after that, the air of anticipation and excitement only rises, making it a thrilling experience.
