‘What I Do Is Hit Him’: George Clooney Dealt a Low Blow to Tiger Woods With His ‘Golf Club’ Statement in 2009

Career-wise, 2009 was a great year for Tiger Woods. He walked away with six PGA Tour wins in just six months. But the 15-time major winner’s personal life was quite the opposite that year. In November, Woods’ infamous scandal came to light, turning the whole world against him. The golf pro was scrutinized by the public and the media. And among those poking fun at the golf legend was also one of Hollywood’s greatest actors, George Clooney.

Just like every other star, Clooney has spent some time on the golf course. Although his golf game isn’t great, his swing when it comes to heresy seems quite precise. Woods would certainly agree.

George Clooney threw shade at Tiger Woods and his controversy

In 2009, when the PGA Tour star’s allegations came to light, many stories about the incident got cooked up. Woods had crashed his car into a fire hydrant soon after a fight with his then wife, Elin Nordegren about his scandalous past. But that story just wasn’t juicy enough for the public.

After learning about his scandal, dark rumors began to circulate about his ex-wife being violent. Some have suggested she smashed the windows of his car in a rage of fury and then hit the golf pro across the face with his 9-iron. Clearly, Clooney had his ear close to the rumor mill.

At the premiere of his movie, ‘Up in the Air,’ early in December 2009, the superstar spoke to Fox News and took a dig at Woods and his wife’s situation. “I never get mad,” he stated. “But I do I get mad at Stan (Rosenfield, his longtime publicist) sometimes but what I do is hit him.” “I hit him with a golf club the other day…you heard about that?”

Elin Nordegren came clean about the allegations

No matter what Clooney or the rest of the world thought about the incident, as per the 82-time PGA Tour winner’s ex-wife, it was all “ridiculous.” In an interview with PEOPLE in 2010, Nordegren set the record straight. “There was never any violence inside or outside our home,” she said. “The speculation that I would have used a golf club to hit him is just truly ridiculous.”

The mother of two also explained that she went out to look for Woods after he left that night and found him in the car wreck. “I did everything I could to get him out of the locked car,” she stated, insinuating that she used the golf club to break his windows to pull him out.
