Tiger Woods made his second appearance of the 2022 season at the PGA Championship. Currently, he is playing the second major championship event of the year, despite suffering from severe pain due to the injuries he sustained in the accident last year. But as he battles through these adversities, visibly in pain, we wonder, what is the 15-time major championship winner trying to prove, putting himself through this?

The heroic attempt by Woods to compete in the Masters and the PGA Championship is a sign of his determination and grit. His participation at Southern Hills this week proves his elite mentality to compete against all odds. Not to forget, Tiger met with a near-fatal car accident in February last year and sustained severe injuries to his right leg.

He suffered from comminuted open fractures in both the upper and lower portions of his tibia and Fibula. As a result, the doctors had to insert screws and plates to stabilize the right leg. Almost a year later, the former World No. 1 still feels pain in the leg while playing golf. But it is his unbelievable courage that he still competes at the highest level in golf.

Woods has also spoken about how the pain affects his golf swing. He revealed the same after his first round at the PGA Championship on Thursday. Tiger said, “Well, I just can’t load it. Loading hurts, pressing off it hurts, and walking hurts, and twisting hurts.”

Despite going through immense pain, he has made the cut at both the major championship events in 2022, and his history at the same is truly enticing. Woods has missed only 11 cuts at major championship events in his long and illustrious career. His impeccable record in the majors proves his consistency over the years. But why is he adding more pain by competing in events? It seems like Tiger wants to prove that he is still the same old guy.

The 82-time PGA Tour winner wants to prove that he is still the old Tiger, who plays exceptional golf despite experiencing immense pain. He did the same at the 2008 US Open in Torrey Pines. Doctors had informed him that he was suffering from two stress fractures in his left tibia and advised him to go on crutches for three weeks.

But with his never to give up attitude, Woods not only played at the event with pain but also won his 14th major championship by winning the 2008 US Open in an epic playoff. And this fight and dedication to compete at all costs has been the highlight of his professional career as he has fought through various injuries to reach the top.
