Bullying is a serious problem that affects a lot of people. It can cause physical, emotional, and psychological harm and even lead to something very tragic such as suicidality. Bullying knows no boundaries and can happen anywhere in any form. But there is hope.

There is a foundation that is dedicated to ending bullying and creating a kind and better world. It is called the ‘UGLI Foundation’, founded by Angela Akins/Garcia, the wife of professional golfer Sergio Garcia.

Angеla knows firsthand the pain of being bullied, as she was the victim. But she found strength and courage in her unity. After embracing motherhood, Mrs. Garcia decided to take a stand against bullying. In her words, “I think after I had children, I realized that something needs to be done about this.” And nothing would be better than starting a foundation and raising awareness.

Angеla decided to use her experience and passion to help others who were going through the same struggles. She created the UGLI Foundation, which stands for Unique, Gifted, Lovеd, and Individual. The foundation’s mission is to fight bullying and promote kindness, respect, and acceptance for everyone, regardless of their differences.

After starting to work, she realized her background in television and her friends, including Quan Cosby (a former NFL player), would help her reach out to more children. With their help, the foundation started working with schools, organizations, and communities to raise awareness, educate, and empower people to stand up against bullying and support each other.

Their primary target is middle school because, as per her research, the majority of victims are sixth-grade students, and it starts as early as third, fourth, and fifth grade.

How does the UGLI Foundation function?

The UGLI Foundation operates through the ‘UGLI Chats program’. In the Chats program, schools have the opportunity to utilize the practice of the UGLI Foundation to conduct sessions. These sessions are designated to engage with students, teachers, and anyone else in need of support.

The focus is on discussing the profound effects of bullying and implementing strategies to foster a more positive and uplifting environment.
