The Vijay Singh controversy

With such an exceptional career, there are, of course, moments that Vijay Singh never wishes to forget. It began with allegations but later was confirmed by tournament officials. But what happened?

Vijay Singh was just 22 years old when he arrived at the 1985 Indonesian Open in Jakarta. Like many young professionals in their early years Tour, he experienced a mix of highs and lows, with the lows being more frequent. He was in desperate need of a strong performance. As the second round concluded, Singh found himself just one stroke short of the cutline, in danger of missing it. Whether he was fully aware of this is unclear, but what is known is that, at some point between finishing his final putt and signing his scorecard, Singh improved his score. He mysteriously lost a stroke, lowering his score by one stroke, enough to make the cut.
