Tiger Woods is one of the most legendary golfers in the world. The 15-time major champion has won multiple tournaments in several countries. However, there is another man who has done wonders in the sport. And it’s none other than golf legend John Daly. But there was a time when Daly was paired up with a 13 years old Tiger Woods back in the day.

What happened when young Tiger Woods was paired with John Daly?

Daly was in a telephonic interview with Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz from Subpar. During their conversation, the golfer was asked about his relationship with Tiger Woods in the 90s. And Daly’s response was something fans had not heard before. “He was kind of a stand back,” the golfer said. “His agent didn’t let him talk to people too much”.

According to Daly, it was not very easy to get to know Woods with the kind of personality he had. He wasn’t much into talking to people back then and was only focused on his game. Daly said that he met Tiger Woods with his mom and dad for the first time when he was playing the National Insurance Youth Golf Classic. Daly, 23, mentioned that he was paired with Tiger Woods who was only 13 years old.

As soon as Daly saw Woods on the field, he knew that the golfer was going to be a star. However, to Woods’ surprise, Daly soon “freaked out” the golfer with his insane strength. After hitting the golf ball really hard, Long John said, “The ball came unwound. I think that kind of freaked [Tiger] out. He thought it was the coolest thing he’d ever seen in golf, that’s what he told his mom and dad.”

Woods once denied having a beer with Daly

Not everyone gets a chance to have a beer with John “The Great” Daly. But when it comes to Tiger Woods, nothing is more important to him than his principles. Daly narrated this incident about the time he saw Woods in his workout attire. He mentioned asking the player to have a beer with him and his friends. However, Woods didn’t hesitate while saying no to one of the biggest golfers in the world. He rather left Daly with a beautiful compliment about his skills saying “If I had your talent I’d be doing the same thing”. Daly was shocked to hear what Woods said.
