Her fortitude was tried on this year’s Cognizant Founders Cup, where she finished as a runner-up. However, few were aware of her migraine condition during the final round, for which she was “proud” of herself.

A struggling Thompson kept it brief during her post-match interview. “It really is rewarding. I think as athletes we just want to see our hard work pay off. And when I’m home, I’m doing two workouts a day. I’m putting in five to six hours out on the golf course, and just to see it pay off means the world to me, and I’m going to continue to work my butt off and hopefully see the results,” she said.

Yet to fully grasp the condition of her injury, Thompson was already looking forward to the U.S. Women’s Open at a fortnight’s notice. “When I go home, I’m working on the same things — on the little things I need to groove on and tighten up in my golf game, I know what I need to improve on, and hopefully see that work,” she iterated.

Did Lexi Thompson ultimately make it to the U.S. Women’s Open?

While she faced a race against time, Thompson made it to the tournament after recovering from her migraine issue. However, she couldn’t secure victory at the Pine Needles, finishing tied in 20th place with a score of 3-over par.

However, her three-year winless streak was finally eclipsed when she won the Aramco Team Series events last month. It was her first win since 2019 and her first LET victory since 2011. Thompson finished T21 at the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship, held at the Tiburon Golf Club.
