When Tiger Woods Explained How Selfishness as a Quality Builds a Champion Athlete

Tiger Woods is the greatest golfer ever; tons of fans love him for his skills and passion for golf. However, you can’t be liked by everyone, and Woods certainly isn’t either. Many believe that he doesn’t care for anybody but himself. But what does the GOAT thinks of himself? Is there a truth behind all the allegations?

Woods earned the reputation as soon as he turned pro in 1996. His “overconfidence” in an interview with a former golfer turned reporter Curtis Strange was enough for the golf world to categorize him as a self-centered person.

Is Tiger Woods selfish? 

Woods opened up about being selfish in an interview with Time magazine. The interviewer asked whether being a champion means they have to be selfish. Even though it was a tough question, the GOAT had a clear response to it.

“I think every great champion who has ever lived would say, yeah, they’re selfish in certain aspects. That’s how you got there,” Tiger responded.

Woods further explained that they would need to put on extra effort to become the best among many. They would need to do extra things that the others in their field don’t usually do; that is what makes them different from everyone. He added, “Why do you do it? Yeah, you wanted to become better. But there’s a cost.”

Why is Woods considered the GOAT of golf?

Woods established his name in the golf world way before he became a professional golfer. He won consecutive US Amateur titles before he began his championship hunt as a pro. Tiger is the youngest to win the Masters, at the age of only 21. He also is the only person to win all the major championships in a row.

Tiger currently is tied with Sam Snead for the top position by winning 82 PGA Tour wins. He also has 15 major championships. 

Tiger Woods has made an elite profile in the golf world with his hard work. To become the GOAT of the golf world, he had to face many difficulties. Although he didn’t want to, he had to become selfish in some aspects to be the ultimate champion. If anybody can become as successful as he is by being selfish, it is worth being one.
