Before his fame in the world of golf, DeChambeau was still trying to make a name for himself like any other golfer. After his win in the Web.com Tour’s DAP Championship in 2016, the then 23-year-old had earned his PGA Tour card.

After turning professional, DeChambeau got a chance to meet his childhood idol, Tiger Woods. And considering the extensive knowledge he has, ‘the Scientist’ surprised Tiger.

Tiger Woods amazed by Bryson DeChambeau’s knowledge

In the 2016 Ryder Cup, Woods was appointed as the vice-captain for Team USA. After three straight losses, the United States finally defeated Team Europe to win the 2016 Ryder Cup with a final score of 17-11 at Hazeltine National.

Since DeChambeau had just turned professional and still had a lot to achieve to find himself in the playing lineup, the 29-year-old decided to attend the Ryder Cup as a spectator. However, the rookie was already making headlines for his unique style, ranging from bringing back the Ben Hogan cap, to the same length irons.

This earned him the opportunity to get on a golf cart with Tiger Woods. During the little cart ride, Woods decided to check the smartness of DeChambeau. “To see how smart he is, [I asked him] what are our odds or percentages of X and X, if you put this pairing, in this session, what are the odds of us winning,” Woods said later.

Much to Tiger’s surprise, the Scientist had a follow-up answer for the 15-time Major winner’s question. Woods further said, “And he said I’ll give you half the hole. And he came back with the answer”. This was only the beginning of the relationship between the duo. Two years later, both men were teamed up to take on the European team in Paris. Moreover, they have also been paired several times in tournaments.

However, following Bryson DeChambeau’s move to LIV Golf, there have been reports of a lack of conversation between the players. Since Tiger Woods has been an avid PGA Tour supporter in the war of Tours, both men have been separated in terms of notions. Despite that, DeChambeau has made it clear that he still has the same amount of respect for his idol and will continue to do so, regardless of what happens.
