What a rookie year it has been for Ben Griffin! The golfer who once stepped away from the course is now among the leaders in most wins for the season. The journey, which began in 2018, had the aim of getting the PGA Tour card, but his dream didn’t come true. With just one win in three years, he stood away from the Tour card and hoped to continue with professional golf. He was in debt, because of which he had to take a hard route and became a mortgage loan officer in 2021. However, after a month, he got an invitation to play again, and that’s what changed his performance graph from decline to steep incline.

Even though he did not win any event, his performance steadily kept improving. In 2022, he was runner-up at three events of the Korn Ferry Tour, namely, the Astara Golf Championship, LECOM Suncoast Classic, and BMW Charity Pro-Am. Even in the next years, he was runner-up at the Sanderson Farms Championship 2023 and the RBC Canadian Open 2024. The result of his consistency was the PGA Tour card for the 2025 season. Hard work paid off for the golfer, and he did utilize the opportunity to make the most of it. In his rookie year, he bagged two victories, first the Zurich Classic in April with Andrew Novak and then the Charles Schwab Challenge.

Now, with his two victories, all eyes are on him. The fans are eager to witness him back in action after his one-stroke win at the Charles Schwab Championship. Well, not far away, the Georgia native will soon be teeing off at the seventh signature event, i.e., the Memorial Tournament. He will be competing against an elite field and will be eyeing a good share of the $20 million prize money. After this, he will also be competing in the US Open at Oakmont from June 12-15.

This week won’t be the first time he will be playing at Muirfield. He has played the course before, and it wasn’t really his best performance.

Ben Griffin’s performance at the Memorial Tournament

Griffin first featured at the Memorial Tournament in 2022-23. In the first round, he carded four birdies and four bogeys to conclude the round at par. However, in the second and crucial round to make the cut, he fumbled and gave away the opportunity. He recorded 5 bogeys and just one birdie to end the round with 76. After two rounds, he missed the cut with a +4 score.

Next, in 2024, he made his place in the roster, but his performance was still the same. In the first round, he scored 76, having 6 bogeys and just two birdies. While in the second as well, the damage control wasn’t enough, as he carded two birdies and three bogeys to end the round at 73. With the final score even worse than last year at +5, the second attempt also had the same result.
