He may have referred to himself as a golfer who has achieved success through tenacity and diligence. He joined the tour when he was 27 years old. His success and dedication made him a man in the marines, along with being a folk hero and plucking cotton in Texas fields. The 1968 U.S. Open victory was a golden one and made records. It was the first of the four times when the great Jack Nicklaus came second to Trevino. However, his victory rally did not end there. The former pro won 29 times on the PGA tour, including six major championships. However, his journey took a u-turn, costing him two fortunes and his game after getting stuck by lightning. The legend returned with a second act that saw him take home 29 more victories on the Champions Tour.However, his journey was full of disparities and prejudice and was much more complicated than one could imagine. Despite all that, he succeeded in his life and fulfilled his dreams. Even though the journey was a bed of rocks, his dedication never stopped him. I think everybody has prejudice.” Because of the disparities, the Mexican kids were not allowed in the pool, and Trevino suffered that pain. “the dark Mexican kids weren’t allowed in the public swimming pool in Dallas. My light-skinned friend got in, and he laughed at us,” explained the former golfer. However, as a kid, he did not know what was happening to him. And eventually, he learned that these things did not affect him. Trevino had to go through what most people of color experience on the daily, his struggles and pain reverberate through years of discrimination.
