The American pro-golfer, Bryson DeChambeau, is one of the most controversial golf entities today. Nicknamed ‘The Mad Scientist’, he often faces criticism from the spectators for his actions on and off the course. Likewise, many from the golf world were not happy when he asked for a second ruling at a tournament, and golf influencer, Paige Spiranac was one of them. 

Spiranac is known to be vocal while criticizing sports entities for their actions. She is not afraid to express her opinions on any matter and often uses either social media or her podcast to let the public know about it. Notably, she did the same when DeChambeau asked for a second ruling at the 2020 Memorial Tournament when the first official ruled his ball to be out of bounds. 

Spiranac’s furious reaction to DeChambeau’s request for a second ruling

“Who do you think you are?” Spiranac couldn’t help but express her frustration through an episode of her podcast, ‘Playing a Round with Paige Renee.’ “Seriously, who do you think you are?” she added. 

DeChambeau had a shot at making the cut at the 2020 Memorial Tournament before he teed off the par-5 15th at Muirfield Village. However, his tee shot ended up in a hazard, and three drops and three penalty shots later, he lost all the chances to play on the weekend. 

The frustration made him question a tournament official when he ruled the golfer’s ball, found under a metal fence, out of bounds. The golfer asked for a second ruling. The outcome of the second ruling was not in his favor, leading him to stomp off from there.

Spiranac found his actions not appropriate for an official professional tournament. “The way he acted to that rules official was so uncalled for,” she said in the podcast. “I think it just shows where his headspace is at right now.” 

Has Paige Spiranac always had a negative impression of Bryson DeChambeau? 

“I used to be a big Bryson fan,” she said in her podcast. DeChambeau is famous for bringing innovations to the sport. While many criticized him for the same, Spiranac explained she respected him for that. 

However, she explained that his actions at the Memorial Tournament and other events led her to stop being his fan. “He’s crossed that line from being different to being a d**k,” she added.
