Who Is Cristobal Del Solar? All About the Chilean Golfer Who Holds Lowest Round Record in PGA Tour-Sanctioned Event

Cristobal Del Solar can be the next star in the making! The Chilean golfer made history by tying the lowest nine-hole score in the Korn Ferry Tour’s history! Furthermore, he played the first 15 holes with a 13-under score. With this feat, the 30-year-old has turned the eyes of many golf fans.

After 15 holes, the Chilean golfer has nine birdies and two eagles. He was just a shot behind, breaking the nine-hole PGA Tour record of 26 set by Corey Pavin. While his golfing prowess speaks for itself, not much is known about the personal life of Del Solar. Let’s look at the rise of the Chilean golfer heading towards the history books!

The Chilean golfer was born in Vina del Mar, Chile, on October 11, 1993. Not much is known about his parents and siblings. He currently lives in Florida in Palm Beach Gardens with his wife, Alexandra Del Solar.

Since his early days, Del Solar has been a fan of golf. He started his journey with golf, playing at Granadilla Country Club in Chile. Interestingly, his cousin, Nicole Perrot, was the first Chilean-born player to win on the LPGA Tour.

But for a brief time, Del Solar was influenced by tennis and thought about making a career in it. However, at the age of sixteen, he won the Abierto Juvenil de Chile. He won the event again next year. He also took part in the Eisenhower Trophy at the age of nineteen, playing for Chile. All these wins solidified his love for golf.

When he joined Florida State University in 2017, he soon took part in college golf events. During his time there, he won the Irish Creek Collegiate and registered his name on the All-ACC Team. In the same year, Del Solar turned pro and has been making his way upward ever since.

The Chilean golfer started his professional run on the PGA Tour Canada. But after playing six events there, he switched to the PGA Tour Latinoamerica in 2018. He entered the league in style as a medalist in the qualifying tournament held in Argentina. His stint on this Tour was his most successful one, as he bagged four professional wins here.

Cristobal Del Solar won the 2018 Center Open with a 5-stroke margin, marking his first professional win in style. Next year, he won the Puerto Plata Open with a one-stroke lead over Scott Wolfes. In June 2002, the Chilean golfer won the Volvo Golf Championship. And in December 2022, he bagged the Argentina Classic on the PGA Tour Latinoamerica.

All these wins granted him entry into the Korn Ferry Tour, where he has been competing since last year. He has been at the top of his game since he joined.

Chilean golfer’s dream run at the Korn Ferry Tour

Cristobal Del Solar began his 2024 season at the Bahamas Great Exuma Classic with a top-five finish. He also had a top-30 finish in the Panama Championship. Furthermore, he has climbed rapidly in the OWGR ranking since joining the Korn Ferry Tour. When he joined the KFT in 2023, he was outside the 400th rank in OWGR. But now he is comfortably residing in the top 250 in the world, with him reaching his career best of 241 at the start of this year.

He also played his first PGA Tour event last year. Del Solar competed in the Mexico Open at Vidanta but did not make the cut. However, the Chilean golfer has moved past this unfortunate start on the Tour. It is evident from the record score he made at the PGA Tour-sanctioned event.

He is currently competing in the Astara Golf Championship on the Korn Ferry Tour. And he made history by carding 57 on a par-70 course. With this score, he became the ninth overall player to card under 60 on the Korn Ferry Tour. With this feat, he has joined the ranks of Bryson DeChambeau, Scottie Scheffler, and Joaquin Niemann, who recently joined the under-60 club.
