The golf world has slowly started to notice Hae-Ran Ryu. She is only 24 and has already got in her pocket 3 LPGA Tour victories, about $5.5 million in career earnings, and 22 top-10 and 43 top-25 finishes. She turned pro in 2019 and played on the Korean circuit. And in 2023, she was crowned the Tour Rookie of the Year. Through it all, Martin Bozek, her looper, has been on her side. Let us get to know him a little better.

Martin Bozek is a caddie who will probably not draw your attention until an elegant move occurs. Martin’s first caddie job was at the age of 13 in Chicago. He took a classic approach to learning the craft: hiking the course, remembering distances, and hauling the clubs. He has studied at St. Francis University. He is a “professional caddie/instructor”, thus indicating the coaching responsibilities off the course.

He has had stints with European golfers, learned the tough nature of the Tour. One of his previous employers praised his ability in the course reading. He “makes difficult holes look easy,” they said. A LPGA veteran had once made a joke that Bozek “carries a yardage book like it’s a secret weapon.” One golfer complimented him on his green-reading skill and said he “saw breaks before anyone else reacted.”

How Did Haeran Ryu and Martin Bozek Start Working Together?

Hae-Ran Ryu and Martin Bozek teamed up almost right after she transitioned to the LPGA Tour. She needed a caddie who would have an assuring tone and could easily read the course, and Bozek was that person right away. Their initial acquaintance took place at a practice session when Ryu requested a quick assessment of a difficult downhill putt. Bozek provided a sure line, and she sank it without a moment’s pause. Ryu chuckled and remarked that he “earned the job in one putt.”

A hilarious Instagram reel where Bozek was standing behind her, holding prewritten answers to the rapid-fire questions, showed their bond. Almost everything he answered was correct, showing how big a part he plays in his life. He guessed her favorite snack on the course was mango and said the ramen was her top cheat meal. He guessed baseball as her favorite sport besides golf and got her favorite part of the game with “ball striking.” Then he even recognized her love for K-pop without hesitation. Their effortless chemistry made the reel seem unplanned and proved how much they know each other during long stays on the tour.

How Has Martin Bozek Helped Hae-Ran Ryu’s Game?

Bozek elevates her scoring through strong pre-performance work. He is constantly analyzing the wind, the speed of the greens, and even the players’ positions that others might miss. He then points out the best angles for her ball-striking and draws her lines that align with her strengths.

His constant reminders help her to keep her feelings in check when the pressure increases. Trust, strategy, and communication are such practices that enable Ryu to play aggressively without losing control, and the resulting balance can be seen in her increasing number of top finishes.

How Much Does Martin Bozek Earn as Hae-Ran Ryu’s Caddie?

Martin Bozek probably receives a weekly base salary plus a percentage of Ryu’s winnings as well, like all caddies. Caddies on the Tour usually take 5% for cuts made, 7% for top-10 finishes, and 10% for wins. For instance, Ryu’s 2025 winner’s check at Black Desert was $450,000. If Bozek adheres to the usual 10% winner segment, that sole triumph might have earned him around $45,000. Overall, Ryu’s 2025 season income (approximately $803,685) suggests that there would be considerable annual earnings from a 5-10% deal.

The two have had a good relationship going on, and by their bond, it will only grow stronger!
