With just two more rounds to go in the event, Harris English has been getting a lot of attention as he is in great form currently. With the 33-year-old eyeing his first win in two seasons, who is the caddie behind the Harris’ current good run?

The American pro golfer enjoyed his best season in 2020–21, where he had two wins and finished eight times in the top 10. However, things turned upside down for the World Number 39 as he had limited time on the greens in the following season owing to a hip surgery. Now, nearly a year after his comeback, English has shown his true abilities once again. While the 33-year-old deserves appreciation, his longtime caddie deserves some respect too. Let us take a look at who has been the golfer’s sidekick throughout his journey.

Since turning pro in 2011, Harris has surely worked with a couple of caddies. However, none come close to his partnership with his current caddie, Eric Larson. Larson started carrying the bag for the American pro in 2017.

Since then, the 33-year-old’s career has been on the rise. Moreover, the four-time PGA Tour winner enjoyed the best season of his career with Larson in 2020–21. Furthermore, English also got into the Ryder Cup for the first time during that season. However, Larson did not come out of nowhere, and has a long history on the PGA Tour.

Before caddying for Harris, Larson already had a history of carrying for professional golfers. The big names on the list include Mark Calcavecchia, Anthony Kim, Jeff Overton, Ken Green and many more. During this time with them, he went on to clinch four PGA Tour titles. Out of these four, two were with Calcavecchia, and the other two were with Kim. Moreover, Larson also helped Kim and Overton book spots in the 2009 and 2010 Ryder Cups, respectively. But where did his caddying journey begin?

Larson moved to Florida from Wisconsin in 1979 with the thought of becoming a pro golfer. At a club, he met Calcavecchia and Green. However, things did not turn out as planned for him, and he started carrying their bags. The Americans first started with Green and then moved to Calcavecchia. While Larson was earning good money, he wanted more. His greed for more money took his freedom away for almost 11 years. In hopes of making more money, Larson decided to sell cocaine, which landed him in a federal jail.

According to Golf Monthly, Larson’s decision to sell drugs began on a small scale at first. The caddie had some friends in the Midwest who wanted cocaine, and Larson’s connections in South Florida provided them with their needs. In return, he would take a cut of the deal. Eventually things went south, and he was caught. Federal charges were brought against Larson, as his dealings were across state lines. In return for his crimes, Larson was sentenced to 13 years in federal prison. This also included five years of probation and a fine of $25,000.

Due to this sentence, Larson spent nearly 11 years in four federal prisons from 1995 to 2005. However, after his release, things turned out well for the caddie. After getting out, he started caddying for Calcavecchia again. The duo again managed to share some success together. Larson then decided to move on to a younger player. This happened with Kim in 2008. The duo eventually split up after a huge success. Larson then paired up with Overton. After that, he had some short stints with Henrik Norlander, Chris Kirk, and Andres Gonzales, before finally hooking up with Harris English in 2017.

Since then, Larson has stayed with the World Number 39 and enjoyed a lot of success. With Larson on his back, English has won two times on the PGA Tour and also made a place in the Ryder Cup in 2021.

Currently, the American pro is enjoying a good season after a year of setbacks in the past. In the current season, the 33-year-old has played in 21 events and made cuts at 14 of them. Apart from this, English has also finished three times in the top 10 and also finished as a runner-up at the 2023 Arnold Palmer Invitational. Right now, the PGA Tour pro is in second place behind Harry Hall in the Charles Schwab Challenge and will try to clinch his first win of the season.
