Golf has had its fair share of underdog stories over the years. In 2004, Todd Hamilton, who had mostly played on the Japan Golf Tour, finally achieved his PGA Tour card at the age of 38. Just months later, the golfer paved the way for an all-time upset as he defeated Ernie Els at the Royal Troon Golf Club to clinch the Open Championship.

During the 2023 PGA Championship, Michael Block achieved cult status as he finished ahead of heavyweights like Jon Rahm, Jordan Spieth, and Justin Thomas at T15 on the leaderboard. In a similar fashion, England’s Harry Hall has burst into the limelight after his golfing acumen set him apart from a field that boasts the likes of Scottie Scheffler, Spieth, and Collin Morikawa. Here are some facts about the relatively-unknown golfing pro!

Born in Cornwall, England, in 1997, Harry Hall has been a pro golfer for quite a few years now. He has played 25 golfing events so far, making the cut in 14 of them. This makes Hall’s heroics at the Colonial Golf Course all the more exciting. The young golfer has achieved top-10 finishes in two events, the latest at the 2023 Mexico Open.

In late 2022, the two-time Korn Ferry Tour Champion earned a PGA Tour Card and is now steadily working towards becoming a player to watch out for. After all, the Cornish golfer had left English soil to chase his dreams of becoming a well-regarded golfer. Hall got himself enrolled at the University of Nevada and Las Vegas and witnessed great success there as well. The Cornwall native achieved the sixth-lowest scoring average in the school’s history and even became a part of the All-Mountain West Squad.

A great opportunity came in the form of the Arnold Palmer Cup when he got to play for Europe against America in 2017 and 2018. He was a part of the Great Britain and Ireland Team during the 2019 Walker Cup, following which he turned into a pro. At the age of 22, the golfer also got the chance to play alongside 4-time major winner and former World No. 1 Rory McIlroy, at the Dunhill Championship after both of them were paired up together. That tournament also served as Hall’s professional and European Tour debut, wherein he mustered up an impressive T15 finish. He had tied for the spot with none other than 2019 Open winner and European Tour star Shane Lowry.

Harry Hall kicked off his golfing journey at a very young age

Hall began his golfing journey incredibly young at the famed West Cornwall Golf Club. Growing up, he drew inspiration from the club’s stellar achievements. Golfing legend Jim Barnes, who won 4 major titles between 1919 to 1925, also belonged to the same club. Another figure from the club, Phil Rowe, would later become one of Hall’s coaches at his university.

The golfer showed promise from a very young age as an amazing amateur career soon followed suit. Later, he won the 2021 Wichita Open on the Korn Ferry Tour. His second win came next year at the NV5 Invitational, wherein he beat Nick Hardy in a playoff. Hardy has since gone on to win the Zurich Classic event with Davis Riley. Hall’s first major appearance came at the 2022 U.S. Open. However, it was a forgettable one as the golfer failed to make the cut.
