It is no surprise that the 2023 Alfred Dunhill Championship winner, Louis Oosthuizen, is currently the talk of the golf town. With his hard-earned win despite having torn tendons in his arms, Oosthuizen has given rise to an increase in intrigue about him among fans.

The duo has been together for over sixteen years now. The golfer’s wife has stood by her husband through thick and thin, like a shield.

Nel-Mare Oosthuizen’s unique name is mostly a conversational topic. Her name, Nel-Mare, is a perfect mix of the traditional Dutch surname and her maiden name. To be more precise, Nel is short for her name, Cornelia. Whereas the German-origin surname, Mare, translates to ‘famous’ or ‘renowned’. According to tradition, her name should’ve been Nel de Mare. However, it appears that she has shortened her name with the smart use of a hyphen, a practice widely followed in her Dutch and Afrikaan routes.

Like her husband, the around 40-year-old also grew up on a farm called Groendel, around 77 miles away from Prieska, and hails from South Africa. The couple got married 16 years ago, in 2007, at the NG Church in Mossel Bay. After some years of marriage, the Oosthuizen family moved to the United States of America. They now own a restaurant together called Louis 57, which is known for its South African wines.

Ever since their marriage, the couple has had three children. Their oldest child, Jana, was born in 2009, followed by their middle child, Sophia, in 2012, and then their youngest child, Emma, in 2013. This loving family of five resides on an 86-acre ranch in Ocala, Florida, tracing Father Oosthuizen’s humble farm boy roots.

Nel-Mare has personally established herself as a diet and workout coach. She provides meal plans and workouts online and helps people achieve a holistically healthy lifestyle. For this purpose, she also makes full use of her social media presence, especially her Instagram account, where she posts recipes, idealistic nutritional supplementation, workout routines, fasting guides, and more.

Apart from being a successful healthy lifestyle advocate, she has also truly supported her husband in all aspects of his life. She was, especially, his pillar of strength after he won the 2010 Open Championship and made it big in the golf world. The way that the 2023 Alfred Dunhill Champion and his wife met is also a love story worth telling generations.

How did this beautiful couple first meet?

The love story between Nel-Mare Oosthuizen and her husband did not have a beginning set in stone, as they were both family friends since childhood and knew each other from a very early age.
