Growing up on a golf course, he harbored aspirations of making it onto the tour, although these hopes waned after encountering setbacks in his attempts. Following his pursuit of a professional playing career, Skovron assumed the role of head coach at the University of La Verne. His coaching prowess was evident as he guided the team to an impressive second-place finish at the 2009 Division III NCAA Championships.

Skovron caddied for Rickie Fowler for almost 13 years.  Joe Skovron started caddying for Fowler in 2010, and their relationship went way back. They had been each other’s acquaintances since the golfer was four years old. Skovron became a familiar face in the golfing community during their enduring partnership that spanned over a decade. Together, they navigated the greens through all five of his PGA Tour wins, including Fowler’s biggest career victory at the 2015 Players Championship.
