Michael Block, a club pro with six professional wins, made history at the 2023 PGA Championship, tying for T-15 at age 46. This makes him the third club professional, after Tommy Aycock and Lonnie Neilson, to earn the highest finish in the tournament. Behind Block’s incredible achievements, one person is playing a crucial role – his caddie.

As Michael Block lit up at the PGA Championship, his caddie, John Jackson, stood there by the golfer’s side, offering key advice and making smart decisions. Their teamwork showed how important it is for the players to make a strong bond and trust with their caddies. Let’s take a closer look at Jackson’s life.

John Jackson is from Pacific Grove, California.. Besides caddying for Michael, John is also associated with Spyglass Hill, where he works as a full-time caddie for the resort’s guests. As per the sources, Jackson has attended California State University, Monterey Bay, a public school in Monterey County. He played on the golf team there for three years straight and was part of the squad that won the 2011 NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Championship. His team beat Florida’s Lynn University by 3-2 in the final.

Did you know Jackson and Block had a history together? Back in 2023, when Jackson received a call from Block to caddie for him at the PGA Championship in Rochester, New York, Jackson relived their past connection. In Jackson’s words: “I’ve known him for a while, we’ve competed against each other in the past, and I caddied for him when he was up here for the TaylorMade Invitational a couple of years back, so there’s a familiarity there.” The two also seem to share a close bond, as the caddie has stated they talk about everything besides golf, it seems, “We’re talking about where we’re going to have dinner, what type of beer we’re going to have after the round.”

Apparently, John Jackson lives a very private life, as he talks very little about his personal life, and he rarely uses social media as well, but when he does, he posts about his achievements there. So it is safe to say that his life revolves around golf and golf only. Following his Instagram account, you can get a brief idea that Jackson is very spontaneous with his approach to life itself, as his bio states: “Professional Golf. World Travel. Good Times. And wherever the wind takes me..

One thing you will find amazing to know is that there was an exception in the 2025 PGA Professional Championship, where instead of Jackson, Block’s son, Ethan, was caddying for his father, and it was Jackson who yielded Block’s bag to his son. On Sunday, the father-son duo was playing with a simple game plan – “go to work”. And it did work in his favour! Even Block has confirmed that Ethan will keep carrying his bag in the future, too!

Michael Block Shares the Impact His Caddie John Jackson Has on His Game

From Club Pro to Cult Hero, Michael Block has come a long way, having caddie John Jackson on his side. Recently, Block has earned a spot in the upcoming 2025 PGA Championship after tying for third at the PGA Professional Championship. Even after being 11 shots behind the winner, Tyler Collet, Block managed to secure a tee time at Quail Hollow Club from May 15- 18. And we all know how Jackson is backing up Block, even Block has admitted that in the past.

After making history at the 2023 PGA Championship, Block shared how Jackson has helped him stay calm in pressured situations:

“I just kept playing golf. I kept my head down. I had fun with my caddie. I had a good time with the players. Taylor [Pendrith] and Hayden [Buckley] were awesome along with their caddies so the pairing was perfect for me as a club professional. No pressure. I had a great time and the course sets up for me nicely”.

And why wouldn’t he have such feelings? Jackson noted how he was “pumping him up” while Block made his Hole-in-One, and finished at T-15 in 2023. Having a caddie like Jackson, we believe Block will raise a storm at Ouail Hollow.
