Who is Soomin Oh?
Soomin Oh is a 17-year-old South Korean amateur golf prodigy. She was born on September 16, 2008, in Ansan. Her height is around 5’9″, and she has been representing Korea through their national team since 2024.
While some golfers pick up the sport later on in their lives, Oh was quite early on that front. She started playing the sport in the second grade. It was this dedication from an early age that earned her a spot on the national team at just 14 years old in late 2022.
Soomin Oh combines power off the tee with poise. That’s her secret behind dismantling courses like the Tom Watson Golf Course in Japan. Currently, she is attending Shinseong High School in Gyeonggi Province. However, she also plans to attend LPGA Q-School later this year.
Soomin Oh’s career highlights
Oh has amassed multiple amateur titles. This includes the 2024 Queen Sirikit Cup, the World Junior Girls Championship, the Korean Women’s Amateur, and the Dolmen Cup. Moreover, she defended her title at the Queen Sirikit Cup in 2025. Thanks to her dominant performance, she finished 11 strokes ahead of the runner-up.
Apart from that, she also finished 3rd at the 2024 Hana Financial Group Singapore Women’s Open and runner-up at the 2026 Women’s NSW Open on the Ladies European Tour. She is currently playing in the 2026 Augusta National Women’s Amateur. This is her second start for the event. When she was in Augusta in 2025, she missed the cut. However, she has turned the tables this time, as she leads the scoreboard after Round 1.

Her first round was a 7-under 65, which helped her tie the lead with Colombia’s Maria Jose Marin. Oh’s round included 7 birdies and no bogeys. These birdies came on holes 2, 3, 7, 8, 9, 14, and 18.
Currently, she is ranked 10th in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. Her best amateur ranking is 7th. On the global front, she currently ranks 289th in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings.
What makes her a true prodigy is her recent experience playing with professional golfers. In the last 4 professional starts she had, she always finished above 20. This also includes a T19 finish at the 2025 BMW Ladies Championship. She received an amateur invite for the event.
Oh carded rounds of 69-67-70-69 to finish 13-under 275. This helped her make a mark on the global stage, too.
Soomin Oh’s lifestyle
A third-year student at Shinseong High School in Gyeonggi Province, Oh enjoys school and amateur events with no rush to turn pro. She still needs to wait a year before she can do that at age 18 because of the LPGA and KLPGA limits.
As for her personal life, Oh has done a wonderful job keeping it out of the limelight. There isn’t much known about her personal life and hobbies. Even her Instagram account is filled with posts related to golf. There are a few other posts that highlight that she likes to spend time with her close friends. In one of the posts, there’s also an image of her singing karaoke. However, there’s much to reveal apart from that.
From her growing list of achievements to her steady, grounded lifestyle, Soomin Oh continues to build an exceptional career. Her rapid rise is now shaping into a journey that could redefine expectations for the next generation of golfers.
