After qualifying for the famous LPGA Tour Q-shool, the promising American professional golfer has now carved her way to the LPGA Tour membership. She has been a part of the tour since 2022 and has made a sum of $830,393 as her career earnings. Sophia Schubert’s recent success is not a surprise to the rest of the golf world, owing to the large number of wins she has accrued as an amateur over the years.

She has long graced the courses of the EPSON Tour with her calculated and skillful play. Schubert was a part of the EPSON Tour from 2019 to 2021. In her time on the official developmental golf tour, she went on to earn $129,260 across the three seasons that she played there. She won once at the 2021 Carolina Golf Classic and had eight other top-ten finishes.

Since 2022, the Tennessee resident has made a complete shift to the LPGA Tour. In 2021, Schubert finished fourth in the race for the LPGA Tour card and earned her LPGA membership for the 2022 season. However, this happiness was short-lived because the famous pro had to lose her membership in 2023 after missing 15 cuts. But as a phoenix rises from the ashes, so does Sophia Schubert.

The 27-year-old proved her worth yet again and regained her LPGA Tour status for 2024 after finishing tied for a 38th place on the LPGA Q-series. The top 45 finishers were set to earn the famous LPGA Tour membership. Consequently, Schubert was one of the 45 lucky golfers. The two-time All-American in Texas seems to have a strong, promising future ahead of her. However, the star’s recent accomplishment did not come to her without a dash of saltiness that followed her as a major controversy surrounding the American golf star came to light. What is this much-talked-about instance?

Famous controversies surrounding Schubert

Sophia Schubert has been involved in multiple controversies surrounding her financial relationships with her caddies over the years. Not one but multiple caddies have complained about several payment issues they faced while working for Schubert. As matters involving the caddies do not fall under the LPGA Tour due to the independent nature of their contract with the golfers they work with, the LPGA Tour failed to provide this set of caddies with some relief. Some of these matters have reached the court of law in the past, and adequate decisions have been taken since.

Recently, however, Jon Bujan, a 62-year-old caddie and former professional looper and Navy officer, has openly protested against Sophia Schubert for what he calls a cause of the caddies. Bujan was seen wearing a contentious gray hat with a purple text that famously read, “Pay your caddies.”

This stunt gained the attention of the larger golf world. However, since his acts fell outside of the LPGA Tour disciplinary guidelines, he was held guilty of inappropriate behavior towards Schubert as he violated the tour’s conduct policy. This led to a suspension for Bujan from the famous LPGA Tour. Justified or not, the LPGA Tour gave its verdict on the matter. However, this did not stop Bujan from expressing his point. Even though he can apply for reinstatement in 2024, as of now, Bujan seems uninterested in going back to the PGA Tour. Only time will tell what will be next for Sophia Schubert and her future caddies.
