The CJ Cup Byron Nelson celebrated Mental Health Awareness Month with a ‘Green Out’ campaign. As part of the campaign, players wore green ribbons and caddies wore bibs that carried short messages that told how each player dealt with mental health fatigue and their methods to refresh it. Two messages stood out. “Family,” as put by Scottie Scheffler, and “Hang with Friends,” which was Chandler Phillips’ message. These messages underline the importance of a support system in a golfer’s life. Stewart Cink will agree.

Stewart Cink claimed a stellar victory at the Insperity Invitational in Texas, carding a birdie on his playoff hole and overcoming the stern challenge posed by World Golf Hall of Fame Member Retief Goosen. This is Cink’s second victory on the Tour, having previously won the title at the Ally Challenge in August 2024. And that is mostly happening because of a great support system around him. Cink’s caddie and family are heavily invested in his success.

Stewart Cink’s emotional caddie

Cink’s victory was very emotional, especially for his caddie Chris P. Jones. He was in tears when talking about the 51-year-old post-victory. “He’s the best. He is like one of the best humans. Results are awesome, but going to work and liking your job and loving being around who you spend 8 hours a day is huge,” Jones explained why he loves caddying for Cink.

Jones’ commitment is immeasurable. He was on the course on Monday, walking the course and doing his homework to assist Cink in the best way possible. The above words by the caddie carry a lot of weight, considering he has caddied for a lot of esteemed pro golfers.

Jones, who graduated from Lynn University, started caddying in 2003 and has caddied for the likes of Kevin Na, Will Zalatoris, and Hunter Mahan. His longest tenure as a bagman came with Mark Wilson. He was right by Wilson’s side as the golfer proclaimed five crucial titles on the PGA Tour. Having worked with Wilson for 11 years, Jones has not missed a single tournament during that time span. That’s dedication and emotional investment, something every golfer looks for in a caddie.

Stewart Cink’s close-knit family

Lisa Cink was also in attendance when her husband sank the birdie hole at the Woodlands Country Club. She was ecstatic after the whole proceeding and still treats every win as his first. The high school sweethearts tied the knot in 1993, 2 years before Cink even became pro. Lisa has been with her husband throughout his entire journey. The high of winning a first major in 2009 and the low of not winning a title in the 11 years after. In all these moments, Lisa Cink has provided the right kind of encouragement and support for the American golfer.

His wife has caddied for Cink in the past. But the support system works both ways in the Cink family. In 2016, Cink stepped away from professional golf. Why was that? To take care of his wife, who was battling breast cancer at the time. “He was so precious; he was such a calming influence. He was absolutely incredible during chemo and could not have supported me more,” Lisa Cink recalled.

It took nearly nine rounds of chemotherapy for Lisa to bounce back and overcome cancer. Upon her return, Cink’s wife surprised the golf world by caddying for her talented husband at the PNC Father/Son Challenge in December 2016. A great statement. The couple has two sons, Connor and Reagan. Reagan had caddied for his father at the 2020 Safeway Open, which turned out to be his first victory on the PGA Tour since the 2009 Open Championship.

The Cink family provides the ideal sword and shield combination for Stewart Cink. It is really remarkable how the unconditioned support of a few, including his caddie, can help increase the intensity of the game for Stewart Cink.
