Wyndham Clark has been a golf fanatic and a skilled golfer since a young age. While studying at Valor Christian High School in Colorado, he achieved the title of “Player of the Year” in 2011 and secured two Colorado State Championships. After graduating, Wyndham began attending Oklahoma State in 2012 and finished ninth at the US Amateur that same year. He transferred to Oregon in 2016, where he won the Pac-12 conference title and the Golf Week Player of the Year award. And another important figure in the golf pro’s life attended his Alma mater—his caddie!

Wyndham Clark is currently ranked at number 80 in the world rankings. The 29-year-old turned pro in 2017 and joined the PGA Tour in 2019. Clark hasn’t had a single tour win yet but has had 14 top-10 finishes. That too may have been impossible had it not been for his ex-pro caddie and fellow University of Oregon graduate, John Ellis!

Before Ellis started caddying, he was a professional golfer for 10 years, having turned pro in 2003. He used to play on the Canadian Tour, where he secured three wins to add to his six other professional wins.

Following his career as a golf professional, he turned to coaching at none other than his Alma mater, the University of Oregon, where he has also played golf in college.

Although not confirmed, it is quite possible that Ellis and Clark crossed paths when the PGA Tour pro attended college in 2016. And perhaps that is what gave rise to their brilliant partnership! For the last five seasons, he has been employed as a professional caddie and has been working alongside Wyndham Clark.

Career highlights of John Ellis

In 2004, Ellis won the Northern California Open, followed by another victory in 2005 at the AG Spanos California Open.

In 2008, he achieved the Order of Merit recognition on the Canadian Tour after emerging victorious in three events: the Telus Edmonton Open, the Corona Mazatlan Mexican PGA Championship, and the Stockton Sports Commission Classic. He also played in the US Open in 2008, where he unfortunately missed the halfway cut.

Additionally, he clinched the GST-Lamkin Tour Championship on the Golden State Golf Tour in 2009

In 2011, Ellis emerged victorious at the Hawaii Pearl Open and the California State Open. His fate was similar to what it was in 2008 at the 2011 US Open.

The former pro is one of four siblings. His parents are Gary Ellis and Linda Ellis. He currently lives in Minnesota with his wife, Shannon, and his five children.

The ex-pro’s income is mostly from being a successful golfer and a successful caddie for Wyndham Clark.

It seems that the caddie is not that active on social media and likes to maintain his privacy. His Instagram account, johnellis_16, is also private.
