Have you noticed something unusual in the golfers’ attire? Being associated with golf, some players wear an MLB patch, which looks strange and raises a lot of questions. But among the handful of golfers, Cameron Young has a strong story that led him to wear it. The 4X PGA Tour winner has been a professional since 2019 and joined the PGA Tour in the 2021-22 season, but his patch story goes even before he turned pro.
The golfer shared how being on family terms with the commissioner led to the encounter and a lifetime partnership. Unlike other players, the money offered for the partnership did not intimidate him. Young shared the story during an interview on the No Laying Up podcast in 2023.
He shared, “So it started – the commissioner of baseball, Rob Manfred, is a member at Sleepy Hollow. My parents have known them for 20 years; they’re great people.” The Scarborough-born is the son of Sleepy Hollow Golf Club’s head pro. Because of his father’s connections, he used to meet a lot of influential people. Among them was the MLB commissioner, Rob Manfred, who offered him the partnership.

He continued sharing, “When I first turned pro, they took us to dinner, and afterward Rob leaned in and said, ‘Would you wear the MLB patch?’ And at the time, I had just gotten [PGA Tour Canada] status, or it was just before I got Canada status, so I was nothing — no status anywhere, essentially. And so I said ‘absolutely, I’d love to,’ and they’ve been there ever since, and they’ve been an awesome partner.”
That offer before turning professional felt intimidated, and ever since, he has been associated with them. Well, the list of players wearing an MLB patch in golf is increasing, and there is another player who has a story that was intimidated by the offerings.

Following Cameron Young, another golfer shared a story of the MLB patch
Apart from Young, Jhonattan Vegas, Eric Cole, Adam Long, Brendon Todd, Chez Reavie, Billy Andrade, and Peter Malnati have joined the list of players. While speaking with GOLF, Malnati explained the factors that convinced him to have the agreement and MLB logo on the bag and shirt.
He shared, “They put a logo on your bag and shirt. They pay you a little bit for the exposure. You do an event or two for them. Take some clients out to play golf. But most importantly, you’ve got a ticket connection. I was really intrigued by that.” Being a long-time Royals fan, the golfer utilizes the partnership by attending all seven Giants-Royals World Series games.

Cameron Young's MLB patch: A smart move or just a quirky fashion statement on the golf course?
Have an interesting take?
In fact, the offers stand for Cameron Young as well, but he has not discovered the perks yet. During the interview, he shared, “I haven’t asked. “We probably do [get tickets] but given the circumstances of when [the sponsorship] started, when I was playing mini-tours, I’m not going to ask for any favors.”
The brilliant move by MLB is focused on getting more exposure on the golf course and, in return, offering golfers financial compensation along with perks to be a part of the deal. The initiative has led to many golfers joining the list. However, the logo being there with the golfers for a long time now, most golf fans didn’t know the story behind it.
