The Chevron Championship at the Woodlands, Texas, will miss at least one top contender this year as Rose Zhang will not take part in the proceedings. The 21-year-old California resident had previously missed the JM Eagle LA Championship as well after incurring an injury during the T Mobile Match Play event at the Shadow Creek Golf Course in Nevada.

Due to the back-related injury, she had to concede her second round against Albane Valenzuela “I had a problem last week, and then it like just extended to this week, and my neck problems kind of get pretty bad,” said Zhang after her match against Nataliya Guseva at the T Mobile Match Play.

She later took to Instagram to share a detailed post regarding the injury and how she is dealing with it. She mentioned, “It’s going to be a long and patient ride, but it’s always a blessing to do what I do and have what I have.” She also reminded her fans that “this isn’t a sob story,” before stating that she will be pulling out of the Los Angeles Event to work on recovering from her current injury.

Despite being a young phenom on the LPGA Tour, Zhang has made three appearances at the Chevron Championship. Her most impressive performance came in the 2020 edition, where she finished T11 and was the lowest-placed amateur of the event. She had previously finished T60 in 2018 before making her debut at Texas as a professional in 2024. She failed to make the cut that year. Her current form indicates that there might be a tough road ahead for the California resident.

Rose Zhang’s 2025 form

Zhang’s current record on the LPGA Tour is not remarkable, at least compared to her potential. She has featured in three tournaments this year, with her best finish coming in the season opener, the HGV Tournament of Champions, where she finished T10 with a score of 8 under par.

She also missed the Asian swing of the LPGA as the Stanford student was focused on her studies, but then she returned to take part in the Ford Championship in Arizona. She failed to make the cutline, which was at 4 under par. Zhang could only register 1 under par. She then took part in the T Mobile Match Play, where she had to exit prematurely. Her disappointing performances have also caused her to drop to 22nd in the official world rankings.

Do you think, despite the injury, that Rose Zhang will be able to return even stronger and make a splash on the LPGA Tour? It is to be noted that she has won an event on the Tour each year since making it professional in 2023. But both the victories have come after April. Will that continue this year as well?
