After Nelly Korda grabbed her trophy at the T-Mobile Match Play last week, the next championship on the list of the LPGA Tour is finally knocking on the door. With just three days away, the Chevron Championship field is set with the passing of the typical Friday entry deadline. The first women’s major championship of the season is a 132-player course that goes on for four days.

Eminent players like Lydia Ko, Brooke Henderson, Minjee Lee, and even the T-Mobile Match Play champion Nelly Korda and many more will be competing for a purse of $5,200,000. Among many other players is Megan Khang, who debuted in the women’s majors in 2016 and landed in the Top 10 in four of the five majors, except for the Women’s British Open in 2016. There, she tied for the 11th position with just a few strokes. She is ready to grab her first major title at the Chevron Championship this year.

Megan Khang began her LPGA 2024 season by competing at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions. Although her first did not go how she expected it to, landing her at the 11th position, with a score of 5-under 283, she managed to bag the second runner-up position at the LPGA Drive On Championship. She scored 8 under 276 and did indeed give an exceptional performance.

Khang felt short of luck and strategy at the FIR HILLS SERI PAK Championship. She missed the cut after the second round of the tournament. This was followed by the Ford Championship presented by KCC, where she again dropped out of the Top 10 list, tying for the 13th position.

Last week, she appeared at the T-Mobile Championship and could not give her all. This led to her tying for the 32nd position with a scorecard that said 9 over 225. Not having won any title at the season this year, she is all determined to take over the first major and outshine at the greens. However, the competition will be immensely tough this year, with the best golfers of the LPGA Tour battling for the first major title of the year!

Top 3 contenders to look out for at the Chevron Championship

The player to watch at the Chevron Championship is Nelly Korda, currently ranked No. 1 in the Rolex Rankings. She has been doing a commendable job this year at the LPGA Tour. She participated in five events this year and won four of them, including the LPGA Drive On Championship, FIR HILLS SERI PAK Championship, Ford Championship, and the T-Mobile Match Play held last week.

Followed by her is the defending champion of the Chevron Championship, Lilia Vu. She has been ranked as the second-best player in the Rolex Ranking. Vu has participated in seven LPGA Tour season 4 events and has landed herself in the Top 5 in all of them. This also includes her winning feat at the Blue Bay LPGA. Finally on the list of the Top 3 contenders is Celine Boutier, who landed herself in the third position of the Rolex Ranking. Just like Lilia Vu, she landed herself in the Top 5 in all the events she participated in this year. However, Boutier has failed to win any trophy this year, and thus, she is looking forward to opening her first win of the season with the major championship!
