The PGA Tour is headed to Ontario for the next championship on the men’s circuit. Scheduled from May 30 to June 2, the RBC Canadian Open will kick start at the Hamilton Golf and Country Club. While defending champion Nick Taylor will be eyeing the trophy again, Rory McIlroy, who won the title twice (in 2019, and 2022), will attempt to get it back.

In addition, the field also has international stars like Tommy Fleetwood, Shane Lowry, Tom Kim, and Adam Scott competing on the greens. However, one noteworthy mention is not on the list. It turns out World No. Scottie Scheffler has decided not to participate in the field this weekend.

Scottie Scheffler to take yet another break?

Earlier in May, Scottie Scheffler had already been on a break to spend time with his wife, Meredith Scheffler, after winning at the RBC Heritage in April. Since then, it has been a roller coaster ride for him. From having his best moment in life to his worst, from welcoming his first baby to being arrested on the morning of the second round of the PGA Championship.

Even after a harrowing Friday morning at Valhalla, the 27-year-old put forth an impressive second round with a score of 5 under 66. However, he had a rather disappointing penultimate round on Saturday, as he scored his first over par in months (73, over 2). Scheffler did manage to gear up and score an impressive 6-under, 65 for the final round, and landed himself with a T8 finish.

The 10-time PGA Tour winner stated that the whole ordeal was quite hectic for him. Despite that, he chose to carry on his golf commitments and teed up at the Colonial Country Club. Scheffler finished his opening round of the Charles Schwab Challenge with an over-par score. But Scottie Scheffler quickly made it through, and with a -9 score, he carded the T2 position with Keegan Bradley. However, it looks like Scheffler has chosen to take a breather, rejuvenate, and spend some time with his newborn, Bennett Scheffler.

Well, it is not just the World No. 1 who will not be a part of the field at the Hamilton Golf & Country Club. While eminent players like Shane Lowry and Tommy Fleetwood are headed to Ontario this weekend, a couple of big names will be missing from the Canadian greens.

Top players that will not be present at the Canadian Open

The RBC Canadian Open, shockingly, will only have Rory McIlroy as part of the field. In addition to Scheffler deciding not to play this weekend, Xander

Schauffele, who won the PGA Championship earlier this month, will also not be a part of the championship. Schauffele, who did not appear at the Charles Schwab Challenge last weekend either, has already signed up for the Genesis Scottish Open in July and must be home, taking a rest after his momentous win.

Adding to the list is World No. 4, Wyndham Clark. After finishing at T47 in the Wells Fargo Championship, he missed the cut at the second men’s major at Valhalla. Just like Schauffele, he too did not appear at the Charles Schwab Challenge; the reason remains unknown. And now, he will not be a part of the Canadian Open either. Unlike Schauffele, who has never played at the championship before, Clark appeared at the championship only once in 2022, finishing at T7 with Chris Kirk and Keith Mitchell. He was left nine strokes behind McIlroy.

From the Top-10 golfers who have previously participated in the event, such as Collin Morikawa and Ludvig Aberg, will also be absent and not participate at the RBC Canadian Open this year.
