Nelly Korda is one of the only two LPGA Tour golfers playing at the QBE Shootout this weekend. Despite finishing only one round till now, the current world no. 1 has attained the attention of many, including male professional golfers, with her incredible display of golf.
The 24-year-old is not new to the sport. However, the way everybody has suddenly started pinpointing the improvement in her game makes us wonder whether it is the result of the new equipment change in her bag.

The brand-new Titleist gear that helped Nelly Korda adversely
It is not a secret that the 2021 Women’s PGA Championship winner plays well whenever she uses new gear. She won the Gainbridge LPGA at Boca Rio, followed by her first major and Olympic gold in 2021 after she switched to the TSI1.
Similarly, Korda switched to Titleist’s brand-new TSR1 driver just before the 2022 Pelican Women’s Championship. Notably, after going through several medical-related issues earlier this year, the Pelican event was her first LPGA Tour win.
This explains why players like Max Homa and Kevin Kisner, who played alongside Korda and her partner Denny McCarthy in round 1 at the QBE Shootout, found the LPGA player’s game exceptionally well. Kisner even called her the “Tiger Woods of the LPGA” after watching her play up close.

Notably, the 1-time major champion helped in scoring 12-under 60 with her teammate McCarthy in the first round of the PGA Tour seasonal event. And almost all her shots impressed the male professional golfers a lot.
The TSR1 helped the LPGA player cover more distance
The most interesting fact about switching her gear is that the famous equipment-producing brand, of which Nelly Korda is an ambassador, hasn’t released the TSR1 driver. The Titleist has plans for releasing the driver in 2023.
Usually, the USGA has to approve every piece of equipment before adding it to a professional golfer’s bag. The golf world has seen the world’s top players getting disqualified for using unapproved golf gear. However, the Olympic champion even won a Tour event with an unreleased driver.

According to Van Wezenbeeck, the Titleist Director of Player Promotions, the golfer averaged 272 yards off the tee for the 2022 season. Notably, it is considered one of the longest drives on the LPGA Tour.
Her health conditions were not good earlier this year. Hence, Wezenbeeck and the team wanted to help her and made her try the TSR1. After knowing Korda could cover more yardage and be more accurate with it, the company made no delay in moving up the USGA approval process so that she could use it in 2022.
