The event is just 10 days away. But for Scottie Scheffler, there is something even more important than the PGA Championship. It’s his family. At the Augusta National Golf Club, the golfer revealed that he would gladly leave the event if he got an urgent phone call from his family. What is this all about?

Well, you see, his wife Meredith is pregnant. Thus, the 27-year-old explained in the press conference, “Definitely have a way to get home pretty quickly. We have somebody here who has access to their cell phone, if that’s all right. And, yes, I’ll be available to go home then whenever I need to.”

After winning the RBC Heritage, the world no. 1 went back to his wife and missed the CJ Cup with Byron Nelson. He will also be missing the next signature event, the Wells Fargo Championship. Scheffler is, however, expected to tee up at Valhalla from May 16–19. There is a slight chance that Meredith Scheffler can go into labor at any time, and Scheffler will have to WD. After all, Meredith’s due date got extended. It is their first child.

During the second round of CJ Cup Byron Nelson, Golf Week’s Adam Schupak shared that he met with Scheffler’s parents, Scott and Dianne Scheffler, and they confirmed that Meredith Scheffler has not given birth yet. As per Scheffler’s initial comments, her due date was expected to be in April. “We also have a tourist on the inside. We have a little surprise coming out in April. It’s also Meredith’s birthday. She’s a Taurus, so that’s just, you know, a little more about it.” But now, it is in mid-May.

Scheffler’s plan comes across as very similar to that of Phil Michelson’s strategy at the 1999 US Open in Pinehurst. The golfer’s caddie had a beeper on him in case Mickelson’s wife gave birth. However, that didn’t take place and Mickelson’s older daughter was born a day later. But Hunter Mahan is one PGA Tour player who had to withdraw one hour before his third-round tee time at the 2013 RBC Canadian Open as his wife went into labor.

But coming back to Scheffler, despite missing the Wells Fargo Championship, the 27-year-old has been practicing on the greens, probably for the major.

Scottie Scheffler spotted practicing for the 2024 PGA Championship

Golf Channel’s writer, Brentley Romine, shared an update about where the 2x Masters winner has been these days. During the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, Scheffler was spotted practicing at Texas’s club. Romine’s tweet read, “Scheffler won’t play Wells Fargo, but he was keeping his game sharp Thursday at Maridoe GC in Carrollton, Texas. Per a member at the club, Scheffler played with Tony Romo, used a push cart and shot 67 in wet conditions.”

His round of 67, even with poor conditions, proves that Scheffler might be looking forward to winning his fifth title this year. He has been coming off a great run. As for the last five starts, Scheffler’s record looked like this: win, win, T2 (Texas Children’s Houston Open), win, and win. His wife Meredith was recently seen at the Bay Hill Club & Lodge course where he saw victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. She also was at the Texas Children’s Houston Open.

Last year, Scheffler was only two strokes away from getting his then-second major win. Now, he will be on a path to his second major victory in a year if he can compete and finish. But when it comes to his personal life, the golfer feels nervous. “People have asked us how our preparation is going for the baby. I feel like, well, we are a little under-prepared. The nursery is not quite ready and we’ve had some issues at our house the last few weeks. I think that’s the exciting part. I think we are definitely under-prepared to be parents.”
