Rory McIlroy has made millions of fans for his amazing skills on the field. However, he was once scrutinized by all golf fans for his actions back in 2014. And it was after he broke his engagement with his ex-fiancee, Caroline Wozniacki. But she once opened up about how she wanted to get over the tag of being associated with the golfer after their breakup.

Caroline Wozniacki broke all links with Rory McIlroy

Days after sending wedding invites to friends and family, golf star, Rory McIlroy decided to call off his wedding with Caroline Wozniacki. And it was all done over a brief phone call. The two had been dating for over three years and were all set to tie the knot. But McIlroy decided to break his engagement with his then-fiancee and gave a brief explanation to his fans.

“The problem is mine. The wedding invitations issued at the weekend made me realize that I wasn’t ready for all that marriage entails.” McIlroy said in his statement. However, Wozniacki was, obviously, in shock at what had happened and couldn’t explain her situation in words. “When it comes out of the blue, that’s like a shock,” she said. “It’s like someone dies right in front of you.”

However, she soon realized that McIlroy’s impulsive decision had nothing to do with her. Moreover, she mentioned how she was ready to move on and didn’t want to be linked with the golfer anymore. “I don’t want to have my name stuck with him forever,” she said. “I’m my own person. I have my own career. The years we had together were great, and unfortunately, things had to end like they did.”

Wozniacki also talked about how she had figured out exactly what she wanted in a relationship. But at the same time, she mentioned that she wanted to have some time to herself as a single woman. “I’ve been in the gym all the time, running all the time,” she said. “It got me in a better mood.”.

Getting over McIlroy might have been tough for the golfer’s ex-girlfriend. But once she did, there was no stopping her from taking shots at the Irish professional. After her breakup, she posted a picture of herself wearing high heels and captioned it – “It’s been three years since I have worn high heels on a normal day out.” Wozniacki rarely wore heels when she was dating McIlroy due to his short height. However, wearing her favorite heels was no longer a problem for her after splitting up with the golf ace.
