Tragedy strikes without notice or warning. And quite often, the most devastating time hits when we least expect it. Nearly two years ago, an LPGA Tour pro witnessed that firsthand with her newborn daughter, Grace. Fortunately, she didn’t bear the burden alone. The entire golf world and the LPGA society stood with her and her family during that chaotic time. And now, two years later, they still continue to do so, with the likes of Nelly Korda and Lexi Thompson taking the lead in helping her.
Baby Grace’s ailments
Back in 2017, LPGA pro, Jane Park married well-known caddie Pete Godfrey, and three years later, Park gave birth to their daughter, Grace Godfrey. But the thrill and excitement of the new baby in the house didn’t last very long for the happy couple! In 2021, 10 months after she was born, Grace was rushed over to the hospital for undiagnosed seizures and swelling in her brain.

The doctors believed that the problem was triggered by a virus or an autoimmune issue. And although things have gotten better since then, they haven’t gotten any easier. The seizures and swelling that the 10-month-old suffered through led to brain damage. Because of that, Grace now faces a life full of challenges as she grows up. The glimmer of hope that Park faced during this turbulent time was that the entire golf world stood with her. And now, two years after the horrific incident, they continue to do so!

As the cost of healthcare continues to rise, the upbringing of a child with special needs is, of course, no walk in the park. Hence, the LPGA stars are doing their bit, helping Park out by partaking in the charity event, ‘Saving Grace, to raise money for her daughter’s future. The event will take place early next month, on the 8th of May, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. EDT, at The Clubhouse in Fairfield, New Jersey.
Korda, Thompson, and several other LPGA stars—close to 20 in total—are scheduled to be at the event. The fans, while showing their support for the Godfrey family, can also meet the LPGA icons during those 3 hours of the night.
