American professional golfer, Justin Thomas, revealed that he suffered a melanoma scare in 2019. The former world No. 1 said he was fortunate that a form of skin cancer was detected in a mole on his left leg at such an early stage.

The 2017 PGA Championship winner shared a photo on Instagram detailing his horrific experience and the scars it left him. “I recently had a scare at the dermatologist where a very small mole on my left leg was caught in the early stages of melanoma,” wrote Thomas. “Luckily, we found it at a time where there should be no problems going forward.”

But he has now used that experience to create awareness regarding skin cancer causing concerns, and has, thus, come out with something extremely essential that could potentially help reduce the number of skin cancer cases.

Sun protection is crucial for everyone irrespective of their skin color and amount of sun exposure. It should, therefore, be a priority in everyone’s daily routine, especially golfers. To spread that message and help golfers of all ages avoid the possibility of a similar scare that he witnessed 4 years back, Thomas has created his own sun care line called WearSPF.

Justin Thomas’ skin cancer recovery journey

In 2019, Thomas went to his dermatologist for a routine checkup. It was a wake up call for him. The major champion learned that a mole on his left leg had early melanoma indications, a form of skin cancer. At the time, Thomas shared a photograph of his large post-surgery scar on Instagram, urging his followers to schedule a visit with their doctors before it’s too late. Fortunately, Thomas found the tumor in time for it to be surgically removed with no risk to his health in the future, but the experience stayed with him.

“Luckily, we found it at a time where there should be no problems going forward,” Thomas said.
